Henry Cejudo returned after his three-year retirement to contest for the UFC bantamweight title. Cejudo went toe to toe with the current division champ Aljamain Sterling at UFC 288. Despite giving it his best shot, ‘Triple C’ lost via a split decision in a very close fight. During his post-fight interview, Henry hinted at potential retirement following his loss. While Dana White loved Cejudo’s performance, he is absolutely fine with Cejudo calling it quits yet again.
Following his loss to the champion, Aljamain Sterling, Henry Cejudo, was seen taking off his gloves on camera. While Triple C did not announce it, removing gloves inside the octagon is considered as retiring from the sport. During his post-fight interview, Cejudo hinted that his fight at UFC 288 could be his last in the organization. “It sucks, hate losing, but it’s also been three years. I just don’t know where to take it from here. If I can’t beat Aljo, my biggest goal was to go up to 145 pounds, I just know where that puts me,” said Triple C in his post-fight interview.
UFC President Dana White, was seen consoling Henry and helping with his gloves following the loss. White also cleared his stance on a potential retirement from Cejudo, yet again. Firstly, Dana White was impressed with Henry’s performance coming after his retirement. However, White stated that he would respect Henry’s decision to call it quits.
White also added that he has only tried to talk two fighters out of retiring, which later on failed anyway. “There’s only been a couple of guys I’ve tried to talk out of retiring at the time. It was Daniel Cormier and Khabib Nurmagomedov,” said Dana White.
Despite all the news, Henry Cejudo has since made up his mind and put a hold on his plans for retiring. Triple C challenged #1 ranked bantamweight fighter, Merab Dvalishvili, for a fight at UFC Boston.
Brandon Moreno wants to fight Henry Cejudo before retirement
Henry Cejudo might potentially consider retiring after his loss to Aljamain Sterling. Cejudo returned after 3 years of retirement and lost via split decision in a very close fight. Following his loss, Cejudo talked about being unsure of his next move and hinted at retirement.
UFC Flyweight champion Brandon Moreno called out Henry to fight with him before he potentially retires. “Henry Cejudo don’t retire yet, please wait for me, I’m going to win my fight in July and then we can finish business. Main event in Mexico City. I go to 135 lbs, f*ck belts, just you and me in the octagon!!” posted Moreno on his Instagram account.
Brandon Moreno was introduced into Henry Cejudo’s training camp to help him prepare for his fights. ‘The Assassin Baby’ was also a part of The Ultimate Fighter when Henry Cejudo served as the coach. However, Cejudo did not prefer Moreno to be a part of his time. Thus, Moreno would naturally end up in Joseph Benavidez’s team. After that Brandon’s friendship and training with Cejudo came to an end.
Moreno continued his training with Benavidez for some time after entering the UFC as well. Brandon Moreno, as of now, is booked to defend his title against #2 ranked opponent, Alexandre Pantoja at UFC 290 on 8th July.
