“That wouldn’t have been good”- Dana White suggests Khamzat Chimaev would have made it ugly for Nate Diaz at UFC 279
Khamzat Chimaev (L), Dana White (C), Nate Diaz (R)
The way in which Khamzat Chimaev rag dolled Kevin Holland before eventually securing the submission was something none of us would have predicted. Sure, we could have said that Khamzat Chimaev is too powerful or too technical to lose, but the way in which the Swede dominated Holland was something to marvel at.
The reason Khamzat Chimaev fought Kevin Holland and not Nate Diaz (who he was eventually touted to face), is because of him dramatically missing weight by 7.5 pounds, and the Diaz camp not accepting such a blatant violation of the weight limit.
Now, Dana White has had his say on what would have likely happened, if Chimaev and Diaz did in fact meet in the octagon. He said, “After you watch the fight, you realize Khamzat Vs. Nate Diaz would have been f*cking – that wouldn’t have been good. Khamzat, I know the fans got pissed at him for not making weight and everything else, but Jesus f*cking Christ.”
Could this be Dana White acknowledging what the fans had been saying all along to the UFC’s brass – that, a veteran and in all honesty, a servant to the promotion of the magnitude of Nate Diaz should have received a better match-up all along, not one in which he was being fed to an upcoming title contender. Fans also speculated that it was hard for the UFC to contain Nate Diaz’s brash attitude when he would often come and criticize the UFC’s lackadaisical treatment of him and his already weak contract.
In hindsight, Dana White sees it could’ve got ugly for Nate Diaz against Khamzat Chimaev.

Dana White has now publicly acknowledged that Khamzat Chimaev is just too powerful and technical and would have not been the ideal match-up for veteran Nate Diaz, who is walking away from the promotion.
Rival MMA organisation trying to get in touch with Nate Diaz
Now that Diaz is tasting the airs of free agency, he is a free bird in all the literal and metaphorical senses of the expression, except the physical one. That is to say, he can join any fight organization or better still, any combat sport that he wishes to dip his toes in.
Till now, because of the type of money involved, boxing has been the frontrunner to give Nate Diaz a place in its vast legions of fighters. Just what weight class he will figure into, can be worked on later. But, he has the fundamentals – he has mean striking and a trash-talking attitude.
However, another contender to get his signature has arrived. This time, in the form of rival MMA organization, Bellator. Scott Coker has revealed that they will try their best to get their hands on Stockton’s finest – if they can work out a contract that works for Diaz, then all the parties should be satisfied, somewhat.
Yet, Nate Diaz has trained his boxing skill over years – and on the horizon, the ever-so-lucrative Jake Paul fight exists. It not only gives fight fans the choice to be in his camp but also ensures that one of the sport’s most iconic figures gets what he deserves.
