Demetrious Johnson is now happily fighting in ONE Championship. However, the flyweight legend believes UFC commentator Joe Rogan was involved with him being traded out of the biggest promotion in MMA.
Demetrious Johnson is considered the greatest of all time by many fans. The flyweight fighter has etched his name in the history books as one of the greatest of all time and his reign in the UFC as a champion of the flyweight division had a lot to do with it. Johnson was in the UFC from 2011 to 2018. His last fight took place at UFC 227 against his fierce rival, Henry Cejudo and the fight ended in defeat for “Mighty Mouse”.
The inaugural champion, after that loss was traded with the champion of ONE Championship, Ben Askren in 2018. Many still are puzzled about this trade. Even Demetrious himself is uncertain what went down behind the scenes before this trade. However, the fighter does believe, that Joe Rogan, one of the prime figures in the rise of UFC was involved in this move.

DJ made an appearance on the MMA Hour show which is hosted by Ariel Helwani. During the show, the flyweight legend spoke about his time in the UFC and his relationship with UFC’s president Dana White. “I still don’t have the full story. I know how it happened, but there are pieces where I still don’t know how it happened. So, I still need to find that out,” said Mighty Mouse in the interview.
Rogan is definitely one of the biggest influencers in the world of mixed martial arts. He is undoubtedly the biggest connoisseur of the sport and is very close friends with the boss, Dana White. Demetrious mentioned Joe as one of the possible characters that could have pushed for the DJ – Askren trade.
“I know Joe Rogan had something to do with it too. I haven’t had the chance to speak to Joe, I heard something like he told Dana White to get Ben Askren. So I still need to hear his foresight on that,” added DJ on the backstory of his trade.
