Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson gets Dana White’s cosign for upcoming Hollywood movie on UFC Champ Mark Kerr

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is good friends with Dana White. He was the one who put the BMF belt on Jorge Masvidal at UFC 244. Moreover, ‘Project Rock Slides’ is the official footwear for athletes and corners in the UFC. In a recent appearance on JRE, Johnson said that he once thought of doing MMA. However, he did not, as his professional wrestling career flourished. Now, Johnson is gearing up to portray former UFC champion Mark Kerr in a Hollywood movie.

Dana White gave the cosign for the movie. He congratulated Johnson through his X account. This is what he tweeted.

Kerr is a controversial figure in MMA due to his success in MMA and subsequent substance abuse. He competed in the UFC and Pride Championships. In the UFC, he won the Heavyweight tournament twice, at UFC 14 and UFC 15. He was also an accomplished wrestler and grappler. He has won ADCC championships, freestyle wrestling World Cup, and NCAA Division I wrestling championship.

Dwayne Johnson is an ideal actor to portray Mark Kerr. Kerr had a 6’3″ frame and weighed 250lbs. Moreover, he had a jacked body much like Johnson. The film is directed by Ben Safdie which has the name ‘The Smashing Machine‘. The name of the movie is also the nickname of Kerr.

Dana White is a very busy man but he finds time to watch his favorite movies and series. White is a big fan of the Reacher series. The Reacher is an action series starring Alan Ritchson. However, there are some movies and series about MMA that White dislikes.

Frank Grillo acted in the MMA movie Warrior and the MMA series Kingdom. Grillo in an appearance on the Inside of You podcast with Michael Rosenbaum, Grillo talked about Dana White’s perception of the movie and series. This is what he said.

Dana White hates that movie. Hates it. Because he feels like it's not a good representation of fighters. And I did a TV series called 'Kingdom'. Um, he came to the set, he loved that because we kind of made that real. We kind of made it, you know, like the UFC. But he hated, he, Dana White hates 'Warrior.'

White was not a big fan of the movie Warrior even though it was critically successful. He did not feel that MMA fighters’ representation in the movie was accurate. However, White liked the series Kingdom which had Grillo in a starring role. Grillo only had a supporting role in the movie. The series was much closer to actual MMA and thus he liked it.
