Francis Ngannou’s exit from UFC is the reason Jon Jones and Ciryl Gane will be going at each other for the vacant heavy title. The fight is going to take place at UFC 285 and the hype around it is massive.
Ahead of the fight, former UFC Heavyweight champion, Ngannou gave an interview where he talked about the result of the bout. Ngannou mentioned that a lot of it will depend on Jones‘ preparation and mindset on the day of the fight.
He said: “In order to deal with Jon Jones, he has to show up. We have to know which Jon Jones gonna be there. The Jon Jones that we know or he’s just gonna be a guy that is there to be there.”
According to Ngannou, the fight can go the distance as both Jones and Gane are good defensive fighters. However, if Jones decides to go full throttle, it can end up within the first few rounds. “I think this fight will most likely will go into distance unless of Jon Jones show up and I think it can be TKO,” said Ngannou. Both fighters are highly skilled and can find several ways to hurt their opponents. It’s definitely going to be one of the most technical heavyweight fights of all time.
Jon Jones believes his fight with Ciryl Gane will be like a chess match
Ciryl in his last fight came back from his Championship loss against Francis Ngannou. In the fight against Ngannou, Gane got outclassed by the champ’s wrestling. Many fans are expecting that Jon Jones will utilize this against Gane.
Jones in a recent video of the UFC Embedded series revealed that he always likes to do homework on his opponents. As a fighter, he wants to be ready for anything and Gane is an extremely smart fighter.
He said: “If you don’t know what’s coming there’s a good chance it may land. So like to get really familiar with what I’m getting into. Ciryl Gane, it’s more like a chess match. Two thinkers out there and I like my odds in a chess match.”
However, after his struggle against wrestling in the last fights, Gane must have worked harder on that aspect of his game. It will be interesting to see what these fighters bring to the table this weekend.
