Former UFC fighter and MMA analyst Chael Sonnen is full of praise for Conor McGregor for “one particular thing.” Talking on his Youtube Channel, Sonnen gave his thoughts on Conor McGregor. Sonnen was in awe of McGregor never leaving his old team.
Sonnen explains that when someone has reached the top and left, coming from a small environment.“The contract becomes more extensive, the training must be big, and the stakes are too high. Someone else has the answer, as another coach might have gone through it.” Most fighters who reach the top leaves after a certain point. But McGregor choosing to stay with his team is admirable for Chael Sonnen, and it is also the most significant aspect.
Chael Sonnen is not wrong. After reaching the top, many fighters leave their team to join a new team to improve their skills. Kamaru Usman did that when he left Henri Hooft to train under Trevor Wittman, and so did Tyron Woodley, who left American Top Team to train with Roufusport. Changing teams is totally normal in the MMA world.

This is also where Chael Sonnen appreciates Conor McGregor for not abandoning his old team despite having all the money to go to a better team. McGregor remembers his journey to the top and the people who traveled with him, which Sonnen appreciates. Sonnen regularly uploads on his Youtube Channel.
Chael Sonnen Calls Conor McGregor ‘The Ulitmate Performer’
Chael Sonnen went on the Flagrant Podcast to talk about the major news events and fights in the MMA world. On the topic of Conor McGregor, Sonnen praised him for being the Ultimate Performer.
Sonnen said, “I think what McGregor does is great because McGregor is true to the gimmick. When he did the ‘your wife is in me DMs’, I mean he’s broken in half; he’s on the canvas. Joe Rogan was down on a knee to interview him, you know. People say ‘well, that’s a real jerk and a real scumbag’ …or that’s a performer that until the freaking ship went down, stayed with the character.”
Staying true to the character, despite having a broken leg, is commendable for Chael Sonnen. No matter what Conor has done, Sonnen appreciates McGregor for staying true to his character.
