Sterling and Cejudo

Henry Cejudo is looking serious this time around about the prospect of returning to face Aljamain Sterling. The former two-division champion has been the next most favored fighter to go up against Sterling and he made his intentions clear on Twitter as he called out the current divisional best.

Sterling delivered a stellar performance at UFC 280, finishing TJ Dillashaw in the second round. A takedown by Sterling managed to dislocate Dillashaw’s shoulder in the first 30 seconds of the fight, making it an easy title defense for the champion. After, he called out Cejudo because of a lack of contenders in his division.

Today, the King of Cringe and former Olympian has returned the gesture by calling out Sterling. However, it was cordial or graceful, instead, he chose to downplay all of Sterling’s wins until now. Calling him, “Alljizzlame”, Cejudo wrote of his last three fights, “1. Beat Yan via Academy Award, 2. Gifted Dec via Guilt, 3. Hate Crime over Handicapped Fighter “, referring to his wins against Yan and Dillashaw.

His request was simple as he wrote to Sterling, “Sign the Contract. “ Cejudo has spent his mandatory 6-month period in the USADA testing pool and is now eligible to compete in the UFC again, and only a competition with gold hanging in the balance seems to be something motivating enough for the Olympic gold medalist to make his return.

Both Sterling and Cejudo were campaigning for a fight between the two of them back in July when plans for the Dillashaw fight were in motion. Both men accused Dillashaw of being a cheat and hence wanting no part in competing against him.

In fact, Cejudo was the last fighter Dillashaw faced before he was busted for EPO usage and subsequently suspended from competition for over 3 years. Back in July Sterling and Cejudo staged multiple meet-ups, independent of the UFC to build interest in a fight between them.

This included a mock face-off, a joint face-to-face session, supervised by Daniel Cormier and the usual Twitter back and forth. While a fight against Cejudo was initially his plan, now the champion feels the UFC simply wishes to rid him of the belt and will call upon anyone they think can do the same.
