BMF Jorge Masvidal and Gilbert Burns have been scheduled to fight at UFC 287 Adesanya vs Pereira 2. In his latest victory against Neil Magny at UFC 283, the Brazilian fighter called out Jorge ‘Gamebred’ Masvidal to a fight at Welterweight.
Former welterweight title contender and the record holder of the fastest knockout in the UFC, Jorge Masvidal accepted to fight Burns. However, in a recent retweet, Burns requested UFC president, Dana White to bring Masvidal’s Baddest Motherf***ert (BMF) title on the line.
“Put that belt on the line! Everybody knows it’s only one guy in the UFC that fights ANYONE!” Burns tweeted. Gilbert Burns (21-5) is one of the best welterweights in the world with a grapple-heavy fight style. Burns is a former title contender and the #5 welterweight.
In a recent interview with MMA Hour, Gambred discussed how he arrived at the decision to fight Burns. “They pay me BMF money. Sorry, Gilbert, but I already got my contract…so I could give a f**k less,” Masvidal replied to Burns’ BMF challenge. “Three rounds is all I need for Gilbert,” the Gamebred added.
“Masvidal hasn’t returned to the octagon since his loss to Colby Covington last year at UFC 272. Ever since attacking Covington on the streets of Miami last year, the fighter has been in an ongoing lawsuit battle with the former UFC Interim champion.

Jorge Masvidal talks about Gilbert Burns fight ahead of his return at UFC 287 after a year-long lay-off
Former UFC welterweight title contender Jorge Masvidal spoke to Ariel Helwani and revealed his reasons for choosing Burns as his opponent in his return fight. The Gamebred had been tangled in legal battles with Colby Covington since their altercation outside a restaurant in Miami last year.
“Initially, I didn’t want to fight another wrestling-heavy oriented individual because that’s been like that my last three-four fights out. I wanted to fight somebody different. A grappler or a striker. Not someone necessarily wrestling heavy. So I thought Gilbert Burns was the best choice,” Masvidal told Ariel Helwani.
Masvidal also discussed offering a fight to former two-division champion, Conor McGregor. However, revealed that the Irishman never responded. “He just doesn’t want it. Every time the UFC’s brought it up, he shuts it down,” Masvidal continued.
The 38-year-old fighter is reaching the later ends of his career and stardom as a PPV prize fighter. Masvidal is renowned for his kickboxing and precise timing inside the octagon having victories over Nate Diaz, Donald Cerrone, and Darren Till among many others.
