Streaking welterweight mainstay Ian Machado Garry is fresh from a win over Geoff Neal at UFC 298. Competing at Honda Center in Anaheim, California (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+), the Irish fighter bagged a split decision (30-27, 28-29, 30-27) win. Advancing to 14-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC, there is no rest for the weary. For now, he scuffles with divisional rival Colby Covington on matters of his wife – Layla Anna-Lee.

She and Garry have caught on much flak since last year. The Brit sports presenter’s 2010 publication: How to be a WAG, was the root behind all problems. Covington and the unhinged and wry Sean Strickland had fuelled the seed to dub it as a guide to celebrity ensnaring. Garry’s continued association with his 40-year-old wife’s previous partner also was a stimulant.

Speaking on the same, Anna-Lee now said:

Bad journalism, Bad people, and lazy consumerism are a perfect recipe for misinformation to explode and an unwarranted amount of hate to land...Lie number 2 [on things believed about Ian] - 'His wife's ex lives with them...', No. No, he doesn't. He never has done...I find that a bit weird...this lie was born out of the mouth of an MMA YouTuber desperate for clicks...When you make a channel entirely dedicated on opinions on others you have to admit your own talents isn't enough...you are riding off the coattails of other people's hard work.

Layla Anna-Lee was allegedly referring to MMA YouTubers and coverage sites The MMA Guru and Red Pill MMA. The former was one of the first to cover Ian Garry’s fiasco, he highlighted that Richard Cullen, Layla Anna-Lee’s ex-husband was now his nutritionist. In a segment last year, he pinned a comment mentioning, “Also the fact that they live with her ex-husband is actually cra*y.”

Hence comes her diss at the misinformation and pseudo-rise to popularity. This isn’t the only time she has clapped back at the dark sides of sports journalism. Strickland tore down UFC play-by-play commentator Jon Anik when he considered leaving the promotion, in the wake of UFC 297. She stood by Anik’s right to free opinion avidly even then.

Sports presenter Layla Anna-Lee: The story so far

UFC welterweight prospect Ian Garry’s wife Layla Anna-Lee has been subject to much online trolling in recent times. The Irishman has even claimed that the defamation of his wife really stung. However, he sees the online hate as a sign of UFC career success. Part of this positive framework has been Anna-Lee, who took the matter rather sportingly and clapped back with systematic responses via her IG reels.

Veteran Chael Sonnen did a video on Garry taking the surname of his wife’s ex on his ‘Beyond The Fight‘ podcast. Comedian Andrew Schulz gibed in his ‘Flagrant‘ podcast that Garry allows this as he is an expert combatant. Even entities like Sean Strickland, and The MMA Guru picked up on it a few times.
