Islam Makhachev ready to show Alexander Volkanovski levels at UFC 284
Things are heating up between Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski ahead of the incredible lightweight title matchup between the two. Volkanovski, who recognizes Islam’s threat on the ground believes he has the skills to get back up but the Dagestani begs to differ.
Islam Makhachev vs Alexander Volkanovski is a wonderful matchup on paper. The two fighters have styles of fighting that counter each other. The elephant in the room however will be Makhachev’s wrestling skills against the featherweight champ challenging for the 155-pound belt. Recently in an interview with Michael Bisping, Volkanovski boldly claimed to not be afraid of Makhachev’s skills on the ground.
“I guarantee you this, I’m gonna be composed, I’m gonna be calm and I’m gonna be fighting my a** off to get back to my feet and I will not panic,” said the pound-for-pound best, talking to Bisping about Makhachev’s takedowns. Makhachev is ready to test Volkanovsk’s “panic” levels as he responds to the featherweight champion in a recent tweet.
“After first 15 helpless seconds on the ground, I guarantee you will panic,” wrote Islam Makhachev making a vow to Volkanovski. While the Aussie fights to become the double champ, Makhachev is eyeing the #1 P4P spot that now belongs to Volkanovski. Makhachev is coming off an amazing win at UFC 280 against Charles Oliveira to become the new champion.
Can Alexander Volkanovski escape Islam Makhachev’s submission
Anyone who has followed the career of Alexander Volkanovski would attest that he is one of the most complete fighters on the UFC roster. Not long ago, Volkanovski faced one of the best Brazilian Jiu-jitsu fighters to defend his title. At UFC 266, Volkanovski showed the entire world why he deserves the P4P spot as he escaped one of the deadliest chokes from Ortega.
Having gone through moments like that in his title fights certainly gives Volkanovski the edge when it comes to experience. However, Islam Makhachev has proven that he is made of a different cloth. The Dagestani silenced his haters by submitting the best submission artist in the history of UFC. At UFC 280, Makhachev predicted a submission victory and did exactly that stunning the world.

Volkanovski and his BJJ coach have accepted the possibility of a takedown from Makhachev being inevitable. Makhachev vs Volkanovski will take place at the RAC Arena in Australia at UFC 284. Volkanovski will have his fans rooting for him while Makhachev attempts to make his first title defense with Khabib Nurmagomedov in his corner.
