UFC fans sure did miss seeing Joe Rogan’s live reactions when Islam Makhachev submitted the greatest submission artist in the history of the promotion with ease in the main event of UFC 280 at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. The long-time commentator does not travel outside the USA for UFC events.

However, on his recent episode of the JRE #1887 episode, with guest Maynard James Keenan, Rogan shared his reactions to the PPV event. Islam Makhachev must have the most incredible squeeze. His squeeze must be out of this world. Because you see how quick Charles tapped when he clamped that on him,” said Rogan on the podcast episode.

“That dude is on another level. He is the truth. I was always impressed with him but leading up to his getting a shot at the world title, he was the boogeyman of the division. He was the guy they were saying is the most dominant in the division,” said Rogan on his podcast.

After Makhachev beat Oliveira by submission in the second round to become the UFC lightweight champion, the Dagestani called out the featherweight champ and pound-for-pound number one fighter, Alexander Volkanovski to a title fight. The Aussie champ also stepped into the octagon and agreed to fight the newly crowned lightweight champ.

“Interesting that he is going to fight Volkanovski next. That’s kind of a crazy thing for Volkanovski to go right up to 55 from 45,” said Rogan. The featherweight champion finally has earned the right to shoot his shot for a second-division title. Volkanovski is confident he can handle Makhachev in the octagon despite fighting in a weightclass lower.

Alexander Volkanovski was actually called up to be the backup fighter for UFC 280. The P4P king flew all the way from the land down under to Abu Dhabi just to test his luck in being able to fight. However, Volkanovski will now most probably fight Makhachev in his own backyard in the upcoming Perth card.
