Joe Rogan is a big martial arts advocate and has a long history of using different styles. However, the UFC color commentator has his picks. Here is what Joe Rogan said on JRE MMA Show # 144:

Joe Rogan discussed with Jared Cannonier the essential ingredients in martial arts to be able to fight. Joe Rogan thus recommended Muay Thai and MMA over Taekwondo. This is what he said on the podcast:

Don't teach them Taekwondo, teach them Muay Thai. Teach them MMA. It's not that there's anything wrong with Taekwondo. But if you're going to train someone to fight, why would you remove your elbows? Put that back in there.

Rogan had previously said that Muay Thai was more effective than striking styles that merge above-the-waist kicks. In another Instagram post, Rogan declared that Muay Thai had the biggest untapped potential in the Western world out of all the combat sports out there.

Rogan has a black belt in Taekwondo. He started practicing karate at age 13 and Taekwondo a year later when he was 14. Rogan became a Massachusetts full-contact state champion four years in a row. He then won the US Open Championship taekwondo tournament in 19 at the lightweight division. Rogan went on to defeat both the middle and heavyweight title-holders to win the Grand Championship.

Dana White reveals how he got Joe Rogan to work with UFC

UFC CEO Dana White recently shared an interesting story on Games With Names about how he hired Joe Rogan as a commentator for the UFC. White said that he met Rogan at a comedy show in Los Angeles and was immediately impressed by his knowledge of martial arts.

He asked Rogan if he was interested in working for the UFC as a commentator, and Rogan agreed. However, the UFC was losing money at the time. Therefore, Dana White could not initially afford to pay Joe Rogan for the first 12-13 UFC shows.

Despite this, Rogan agreed to work for free. White said that he was grateful for Rogan’s support and that he is one of the reasons why the UFC became a global success. Rogan has been a commentator for the UFC since 1997 and is now one of the most popular and respected voices in the sport.
