The “Notorious” Conor McGregor aspires to return to the octagon very soon. In a recent social media outing (on X), he even reaffirmed being “all in” for UFC 300 if given the chance. The Irishman’s return to the octagon has the fans excited. However, commentator Joe Rogan has his doubts about it. He weighed in on the same on his podcast.

The former double-division titleholder went up against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. In the trilogy fight, McGregor incurred a leg injury. He had to undergo titanium insertion, and recovery back to full health took almost two years. In episode #2073 of The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, the commentator said:

No one has ever come back from that catastrophic leg break. The shin break. Not a single athlete has come back from it and performed at the same level. Anderson Silva’s the only guy who came back and fought multiple times, and he was not the same guy...

McGregor has also recently caught much flack about his bulk-up post-recovery and possible enhancements. Talking with Rogan, PED expert Derek Munro talked on the same. The fighter had exited the testing pool during recovery, thus making people believe that he was using substantial enhancements for a quicker turnaround.

However, since then, McGregor has submitted samples to the USADA testing pool. This was ahead of their departure from the promotion at the end of this month. Rogan’s fears about McGregor remain valid. Chris Weidman and Anderson Silva struggled to return to their peak form after their leg break. What kind of result awaits McGregor? Only time will tell.

Recently, famed MMA commentator and enthusiast Joe Rogan laid out a plan for his return in an ideal situation. On his podcast, Rogan recently delved into his injuries and possible allegations of PED usage. After such a long layoff, Rogan said on a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience that he would ease McGregor back into the fold and to the top of the division.

Rogan suggested the former champion return against an unranked fighter. He wanted McGregor to feel himself before returning to fight the ranked contenders. However, the Irishman wants to fight Michael Chandler. Even Poirier himself has aspired to defeat the fighter once and for all if they were to face for a fourth time. Nevertheless, fans expect McGregor to fight someone in 2024.
