UFC 282 will be headed by the light heavyweight title bout between champion Jiri Prochazka and veteran Glover Teixeira. However, there might still be a little time before a different fight is announced to headline the event.

The PPV mentioned above will take place in Los Angeles, Nevada, and is the final event that will be on offer by the UFC in 2022, before heading into 2023. After a lacklustre PPV performance across the year, the promotion quickly scrambled to put out three star-studded PPVs in the form of UFC 280, 281 and 282.

UFC 282 could be given the cherry on the top it deserves, but does not really need by the addition of the long-awaited match-up between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic. And, according to Jones, Miocic is holding the fight up. He took to Twitter to post, “I’m bringing all the heat @Stipemiocic, I got that fire you could never put out. Sign the contract #Ufc282

If this fight does materialize, it could become a heavyweight showdown like no other.

It is common knowledge that UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou and the promotion are not on the best of terms – the main reason for this being that while Ngannou has been pushing for a better contract, the UFC believe that given his PPV performance, it is unwarranted. Despite defending the belt against Ciryl Gane, Dana White did not wrap the belt around the Cameroonian- which made the rumours of a rift materialize.

The heavyweights were once considered the attraction of combat sports. One punch from a competent 265 pounder and their opponent could be sent packing, however good they might be. In Jon Jones, if and when he does make said comeback, and if he wins the title later on; the UFC will have a bonafide heavyweight PPV superstar. The name is enough to attract big PPV sales.

However, there are a lot of contingencies that both the fighter and the promotion need to hash out first. Stipe Miocic, arguably the greatest heavyweight to ever fight in the UFC, has been radio silent about both Jones and his own comeback, ever since losing to Ngannou via TKO in 2021. If he were to return and potentially defeat Jon Jones, a trilogy between him and the current champion could be in the cards.

But, the fight that the UFC really want to make is the Jon Jones vs Francis Ngannou bout. The fight will attract insane PPV numbers and has the potential to become a classic.
