UFC P4P king and featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski is moving up a weight class to challenge the newly crowned lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev for the belt.
Makhachev fulfilled his lifelong dream of becoming a UFC champion, and he did it with as many style points as possible. Makhachev submitted Charles Oliveira at UFC 280, and he is very confident about his fight against Volkanovski. Makhachev’s training partner/friend/coach, Khabib Nurmagomedov recently appeared in an interview with Class A Events/Penny Appeal Canada, and he shared his thoughts on the bout.
He said, “I told Islam like even before last fight with Charles Oliveira, I told him, ‘Volkanovski is gonna be tougher than Charles Oliveira. Like, before the fight because it was like if Charles don’t make weight, it’s going to be Volkanovski who is supposed to fight with him.”
“They both have good experience. But if you talk about fighting IQ and big heart, I think Volkanovski’s better than him. I think Volkanovski is gonna be tougher opponent for Islam than Charles Oliveira. But, anyways, who cares? We’re gonna finish this guy,” Khabib concluded.

Alexander ‘The Great’ Volkanovski has defeated the likes of Max Holloway, Jose Aldo, Brian Ortega, Frankie Edgar and more. His win streak in the featherweight division is unmatched, and he’s been putting incredible performances one after the other.
Volkanovski is feeling a bit disrespected by Makhachev’s corner, and he vows to put him in his place at UFC 284. “Trust me, he’s going to have big problems with me,” Volkanovski stated. “He might think I’m a little guy, but this little guy is going to look pretty big against him. Folks from Dagestan are known for their superior grappling skills, and even Volkanovski’s Jiu – Jitsu coach admitted that their way of grappling is better. Even though Volkanovski started out as a wrestler, his striking quickly caught up, and now he’s putting up striking masterclasses against the likes of Max Holloway and Jose Aldo
It’d be interesting to see how the fight between these two elites will go down. Regardless of the outcome, it’ll be an absolute treat for fight fans, and they cant wait for them to get locked inside the octagon.
