The world witnessed Argentina lift the FIFA World Cup last night, in what was the crowning achievement of arguably the greatest footballer to step foot onto the hallowed turf, Lionel Messi.

As the world witnessed the drama and shock that unfolded through the breadth of the match, with France recovering on three occasions to get the score back to level pegging, the camera panned to the audience on numerous occasions. In attendance were bonafide sporting stars, political icons (including Emmanuel Macron) and luminaries from the world of cinema – Indian film fans would have surely spotted Deepika Padukone bring the World Cup trophy onto the pitch with Spanish legend Iker Casillas.

MMA fans didn’t have too many stargazing moments – however, at the end of the match, Khabib Nurmagomedov, one of the greatest to ever do it, posted a picture with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Novak Djokovic, Javier Pastore, Paul Pogba and Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, all of whom are sporting icons. He captioned the picture, “World Cup Final with legends.”

For a little more context – Ibrahimovic is a Swedish footballing legend, having made his name playing for the likes of Paris St. Germain and AC Milan, Djokovic is one of the greatest tennis players ever, and Paul Pogba is a glitzy star in the footballing world, currently playing for Juventus. Alongside them are Javier Pastore, an Argentine footballer who played primarily for Paris St. Germain, and finally Nasser Al- Khelaïfi, who effectively owns the Parisian club.

Khabib Nurmagomedov might be the flagbearer for MMA despite his retirement. However, as he comes from a part of the world where people primarily adore football, it is no surprise that Nurmagomedov is a huge football fan himself.

Having been to Old Trafford and Anfield, which are the stadiums of iconic English clubs Manchester United and Liverpool, respectively; Nurmagomedov’s own club affinity lies with Spanish giant Real Madrid. He also has admittedly gained some proximity with Cristiano Ronaldo.
