Justin Gaethje defeated Rafael Fiziev at UFC 286 and intended to compete for the title again. However, rumours about Conor McGregor’s title shot began circulating if he could beat Michael Chandler in their bout. Gaethje disagrees with the rumour and has admitted to considering retirement if those rumours become true.
In an interview with Brett Okamoto of ESPN, Gaethje addressed the possibility of the rumour becoming true and hoped it does not happen. He said, “Would I quit if Conor won and they gave him a title shot? Probably,” Gaethje told ESPN. “That’s how hurt I would be by the actions of the company I represent. But that’s out of my control. I just really hope that doesn’t happen.”
Justin Gaethje thinks Conor McGregor does not deserve a title shot for beating Michael Chandler. He has admitted that the decision to reward McGregor is up to the UFC. Gaethje revealed in the post-fight media appearance after UFC 286 that he intends to fight for the title again and praised current champion Islam Makachev.

McGregor is coming off two losses against Dustin Poirier. In the second loss, he suffered a brutal leg injury that kept him sidelined for 2022. He has since returned to the UFC, filming TUF 31 opposite Michael Chandler. They will fight later this year, and rumours suggest UFC could reward McGregor with a title shot.
Justin Gaethje praises former opponent Edson Barboza on Twitter

Former Interim champion Gaethje took on a dangerous striker Edson Barboza in the main event of the Fight Night card. The fight only landed a round, but Gaethje is so full of praise for the Brazilian fighter. He took to Twitter to give his appreciation of Barboza.
One of the few times I’ve been scared walking into a fight was against Barboza. Watching him body people was definitely in the back of my mind. https://t.co/UmmvJxR2AY

He wrote, “One of the few times I’ve been scared walking into a fight was against Barboza. Watching him body people was definitely in the back of my mind.” Gaethje’s fights are some of the most brutal ones to watch, which is not something fans expected Gaethje to say.
Gaethje is coming off a decision win over another dangerous striker in Rafael Fiziev, at UFC 286. He will likely rematch Dustin Poirier to avenge his previous loss to the Louisiana fighter. Fight fans constantly look forward to the next fight announcement of Justin Gaethje.
