Paddy Pimblett takes on Tony Ferguson in the upcoming UFC PPV event. This fight goes down in the main card of UFC 296 in December. As such, ‘El Cucuy’ took his training camp to retired Navy Seal David Goggins. The latter put Ferguson through the ‘Hell Week’ program. Ferguson passed the test and remains the only one to complete it under David Goggins. However, his opponent Paddy Pimblett felt it was nonsensical and shared his thoughts on the same.
In a recent interview on the ‘Energized Show’ on YouTube, Paddy Pimblett stated that Tony Ferguson’s training with David Goggins wouldn’t change his state as a fighter. Further, he mentioned that it would do more damage than good to him. However, he gave props to ‘El Cucuy’ for his cardio and mental state. But, he mentioned the same attributes as to why training with Goggins was a mistake. Here is what he said:
It's bizarre and f**king stupid. If there's two things that Tony's never needed help with, it is his mental state...and then look at his cardio, he's never had a problem with his cardio. So, I don't understand why he'd done it.Paddy Pimblett (via Energized Show)
Tony Ferguson was the boogeyman of the lightweight division once. He was on a twelve-fight win streak and was on the cusp of getting a title shot. But, unfortunately, Gaethje put a beating on Ferguson to alter his career forever. Since then, ‘El Cucuy’ had lost six fights straight. Now, he trained alongside David Goggins for his fight with Paddy Pimblett with the hope of turning things around.
Paddy Pimblett won his previous fight against Jared Gordon in 2022. However, the controversial decision win hurt the hype behind him. Moreover, he was sidelined due to an injury he suffered in the fight. Now, he returns to the octagon on December 16 against veteran Tony Ferguson to prove his haters wrong.
Paddy Pimblett shares his thoughts on his fight with Tony Ferguson
Paddy Pimblett was a rising prospect from the UK. He carried a lot of hype around him with his eccentric personality and comedic attitude. Now, he faces his first biggest name in the UFC in the shape of Tony Ferguson. As such, he previewed his upcoming fight with Tony Ferguson and laid a bold claim.
Paddy Pimblett expects a war in his upcoming bout with Tony Ferguson. However, he wanted to be the first person to finish Tony Ferguson in the first round. He mentioned that all the fighters have put Ferguson down in the later rounds but no one has done it in the first. So, he believed finishing ‘El Cucuy’ in the first round would him the respect of the MMA fans. Here is what he said:
I want to finish him in the first round though. I want to be the first person to finish him in the first round because everyone else is finished him in the second or later... But, as I say, Tony's that tough and it'd be a very good performance if I will put him away in the first round.Paddy Pimblett (via Energized Show)
