“It was hard, I was crying,” Rashad Evans reveals the UNBELIEVABLE way a weight cut reduced him to a crying mess
Rashad Evans
UFC Hall of Famer Rashad Evans was a force to be reckoned with during his fighting days. He took on some of the absolute best fighters that the UFC had on its roster back then.
However, it seems his time away from fighting has mellowed out Rashad Evans who now projects a much less intense and more laidback energy. He recently revealed how one weight cut brought him to tears.
“Suga” said he was cutting weight ahead of schedule for a fight on a card and was feeling pretty good about it. He was once near a pool during that weight cut and one of his trainers apparently told him not to jump in lest he should gain back some of the weight.
However, Rashad said he jumped in the pool and then he detailed what happened. “Lo and behold, I didn’t believe him. I jumped in the pool, I gained a pound and a half back… It was hard, I was crying.” Rashad then did a hilarious reenactment of himself after gaining that weight, mockingly crying, saying, “I don’t want to do this no more.”
Seeing Rashad Evans like this comes as a nice change. He had an intense demeanor in the cage and fought like an absolute machine. However, fans will liken this version of Suga to the one they saw on the Ultimate Fighter when he coached opposite, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.
Rashad Evans revealed the truth behind his relationship with Jon Jones
Jon Jones and Rashad Evans were once training partners and friends. Jones and Evans first encountered one another at Greg Jackson‘s Gym. They quickly developed a sort of mentor-protege relationship.
However, this relationship quickly soured. And things finally came to a head at UFC 145 when the two finally went toe-to-toe in an octagon. On Patrick David-Bet’s podcast, Rashad was asked about whether he and Jones mended fences.
He said, “Whenever I see him, I speak to him and say ‘What’s up?’ to him. Give him some well wishes and things like that. I have nothing but love for the guy.” Rashad also revealed that he sometimes has dreams about Jon and calls his manager, panicked over Jones’ well-being.
The UFC Hall of Famer explained his actions saying, “I care about the kid and I don’t him to, I want him to be the guy he can be. I want him to be that guy.” Evans also said that he does not agree with Daniel Cormier’s assessment of Jones.
In light of these statements, it seems there is no more beef between these two legendary fighters. And all Rashad seemingly wants is for his former training partner and friend to simply live up to his innate potential.
