Conor McGregor and Eddie Hearn recently interacted in the UFC superstar’s popular pub in Dublin, Ireland. Hearn comments on McGregor’s amateur boxing skills as a professional MMA fighter.
Conor McGregor and Eddie Hearn exchanged pleasantries at McGregor’s pub in Dublin. The two personalities had briefly met a while back but this is their full active interaction and Eddie Hearn seems to have loved it. They discussed McGregor’s involvement in the then-upcoming Katie Taylor fight, an undefeated Irish professional boxer. McGregor sponsored Taylor’s fight as she stepped up to the light welterweight division. Taylor eventually lost to opponent Chantelle Cameron via majority decision. It was the first loss in her professional career.
But Eddie Hearn’s interaction with McGregor wasn’t half as disappointing. The boxing promoter was quite impressed by the Irishman’s energy and enthusiasm. ” I don’t know how long it was, an hour-and-a-half, two hours — just the funniest time,” Hearn reveals. “I’ve never met a personality like him. I mean, I’m a fan…When I was talking to him I was thinking wow I can’t believe I am having a pint with Conor McGregor, and two you’re absolutely mental”.
Hearn appreciated Conor McGregor’s enthusiasm for boxing as the UFC star narrates one idea after another. He commends McGregor’s skill as a boxer and complimented his bout against the undefeated Floyd Mayweather. McGregor went the full distance against the 50-0 boxer in his debut fight as a boxer. He suggested Conor fight someone from the MMA world in a boxing match which would be an interesting event at the least. Hearn suggested Nate Diaz who is making his debut in boxing against Jake Paul later this year in August.
“Conor McGregor bigger than the UFC” – Eddie Hearn reveals
Conor McGregor is an international star and the face of the UFC. The UFC jump shot into the spotlight after the arrival of the Irish fanatic. The popularity of McGregor outgrew his identity as a UFC fighter as he ventured into various businesses and other areas. He fought Floyd Mayweather back in 2017 which was one of the biggest-selling pay-per-view events in a decade.
McGregor was listed in the Forbes list of The World’s Top-Paid Athletes in 2021 outperforming athletes like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. He recently came out with his very own Netflix documentary and is starring in his debut movie alongside Hollywood actor Jake Gyllenhaal. Hearn describes how it is a nightmare for the UFC that the Irish superstar outgrew the promotion.
“You see these kids coming out of Bellator, or Cage Warriors, or wherever it is, but the thought of getting a UFC contract is everything. But I feel in the UFC; they don’t want you to get too big,” Hearn says. “I used to almost laugh at Conor because I could just imagine just the disruption that he was causing in that organization... Conor McGregor became bigger than the UFC. Really. And that’s a nightmare for those guys”.
