“Just ran into Dana” – UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou describes chance encounter with Dana White amid contract tensions
Francis Ngannou (L) with Dana White (R)
Francis Ngannou is the UFC heavyweight champion, and for good reason, at that. Not only is he arguably the most ferocious striker on the roster, but his continued exemplification of upping his game has shown that he has what it takes to hold the most touted title in the UFC.
His last fight came against the then undefeated Frenchman Ciryl Gane, who himself is a feared striker – however, as opposed to Ngannou’s deadly one punch knockout power, Gane’s skillset is capped off by his movement that is akin to, say, a middleweight’s. After beating the Frenchman, one would assume that Ngannou would be enjoying a peaceful time away from the canvas, or even preparing for another title defence.
That, however, has not been the case – after the fight, he has had to get extensive surgeries done, and has also been mired in a contractual war with the UFC, and Dana White. However, recently, he posted a Tweet that dispelled some of the tension between the duo. The tweet read, “I just ran into Dana at the PI. Believe it or not but we were personally cool.”
Francis Ngannou has had a turbulent time dealing with UFC after becoming the heavyweight champion
Back when the two fought for the title in 2019, Stipe Mioicic easily outclassed the Cameroonian to retain the 265-pound title. The second rendition, was not supposed to go too differently from the first, according to analysts, and bookmakers. However, in the second round, Ngannou showed just why he has the most feared hands in the entire promotion, stinging Miocic who got KO’d.
Since, the UFC and the Cameroonian have been involved in an ugly contract battle. Francis Ngannou has time and again expressed the desire to earn more, while the promotion’s head, Dana White has negated any such desires of the champion, citing his poor PPV performances.

The dispute took an ugly turn after his fight with Gane – Dana White usually wraps the belt around the champion’s waist after the decision is read out by Bruce Buffer. This time, White was absent from the ceremonial wrapping. It’s not as if he was absent from the event either.
After the fight, he had some choice words for White and the company, saying, “I felt like I was freezed to get financial pressure, to maybe come to an agreement from what they are saying, to need them.”
Needless to say, it comes as a surprise then, that Dana White and Francis Ngannou are on agreeable terms, as per his tweet.
