Despite advice from McGregor, Jalin Turner loses a split decision against Mateusz Gamrot

UFC Lightweight contenders Jalin Turner and Mateusz Gamrot collided at UFC 285. At the PPV, Turner was initially scheduled to fight Dan Hooker, but Hooker pulled out and this paved the way for Gamrot to step up on short notice to fight Turner on the main card of UFC 285. After the end of three rounds, the Polish fighter won the contest on the judges’ scorecard via Split decision.

It was a classic example of a wrestler going against a striker. Gamrot was constantly aiming for takedowns, and Turner on the other hand was looking to keep the fight on the feet to get his offense going. Moreover, Gamrot managed to land a lot of leg kicks in the fight which made Turner change his stance, giving Gamrot a better chance at securing takedowns. Even though Turner did his best against Gamrot’s vicious takedown attempts by stopping 8 takedown attempts, it wasn’t enough to secure a win.

Gamrot is now back in the winning column after losing a decision against Beneil Dariush, whereas Turner has lost after a 5-fight winning streak. It will be interesting to see who the ‘Gamer’ would fight next as Gamrot will be looking for a top 5 opponent, whereas Turner will attempt to rebound from the loss.
