Joe Rogan is one of the best commentators in the UFC. Even though he has taken a step back from commentating on international events, fighters still love having Rogan in the commentary booth. Many fighters look forward to having an interview with Rogan inside the octagon. Over the years, Rogan’s busy schedule with Joe Rogan Experience made him available only for domestic US PPVs. The commentary team of Rogan with Daniel Cormier and Jon Anik remains iconic for the promotion in recent years.

Now, a clip of Rogan’s commentary from a past fight went viral on social media. The fight is from the pre-Reebok era. In the clip, one flighter tried to submit the other with a knee bar submission. However, the fighter refused to tap out. This made Rogan say one of the funniest things in the commentary booth. This is what Rogan said.

I can't even watch that....oooohh.....aaaaah.

Rogan is a BJJ black belt and knows firsthand the pain certain BJJ submissions can inflict. That is the reason why he screamed inside the commentary booth when he saw the execution of the kneebar submission. It is a common thing in the UFC for the commentators to scream. Daniel Cormier and Jon Anik have more than often screamed when a brutal knockout happened inside the octagon.

Jon Anik had one iconic moment in the commentary booth at UFC 278. The moment Anik backed Leon Edwards whilst he was down 3 rounds to 1, he landed a head kick in the fifth round and knocked out Kamaru Usman. Many attribute the moment as the greatest commentary call ever in the history of the UFC.

Joe Rogan and John Danaher talk about leg locks in BJJ

Acclaimed BJJ expert John Danaher once appeared on the Joe Rogan Experience. On the podcast, Danaher educated Rogan about the evolution of the leg locks in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Danaher described that leg locks were a marginalized technique in BJJ but are now a dominant technique. In the early years, necks and arms were the prime targets of attack. Danaher was among the first to utilize leg locks effectively.

Under Danaher, top grapplers like Gordon Ryan, Gary Tonon, Nicky Ryan, and Eddie Cummings became very good at leg locks. Danaher has an innovative leg lock system that the aforementioned grapplers use to full effect in competitions.

Until 2021, Danaher had a group of elite BJJ grapplers under him, the ‘Danaher Death Squad’. Craig Jones, Nicky Ryan, Nick Rodriguez, and Ethan Crelinsten would then split from Danaher to form B Team Jiu-Jitsu.

Danaher originally trained under Helio Gracie. On JRE, he revealed that it was from Dean Lister that he learned leg locks. Lister was famous for Achilles’ locks at the time. Lister made Danaher realize that legs comprise almost 50% of the human body. From there Danaher had a change in approach which ultimately fostered his interest in leg locks.
