Conor McGregor has been one of the biggest stars if not the biggest star in UFC history. The Notorious One has been solely responsible for creating some of the memorable moments in UFC courtesy of his trash-talking ability.
One such memorable moment was created by McGregor during the 2015 season of The Ultimate Fighter while taking a shot at TJ Dillashaw and creating the iconic “snake in the grass ” taunt.
During the show, Conor McGregor passed a comment to TJ Dillashaw saying, “There’s the little snake in the grass right there. Hey, little boy. You lost. Where’s your mommy, little boy?”
Conor McGregor tried to suggest that T.J. Dillashaw was abandoning his longtime friend and coach, Urijah Faber, by siding with his new coach, Duane Ludwig. He further added, “I’d like to congratulate you and your coach Duane (Ludwig). Great win, man. Well done. Urijah thinks Duane’s a snake though. What do you think, eh?”
T.J. Dillashaw retorted that different people have different perspectives. McGregor further urged Urijah Faber to realize that Dillashaw was no longer a member of Faber’s team and had already pledged his allegiance to Ludwig Conor McGregor’s prediction did come true as Dillashaw eventually did leave Faber’s Team Alpha Male and joined Ludwig.
TJ Dillashaw claimed Conor McGregor was a legend despite these incidents
Despite all the bad blood during the Ultimate Fighter season, Dillashaw has nothing but respect for the Notorious one. During an interview with Mirror fighting ahead of his fight with UFC 280 Dillashaw reveals he has not spoken to the Irishman since then but doesn’t disagree with his legendary status.
He said, “He’s a legend at what he’s been able to do through the sport as well as in business. At the beginning of my career I liked to hate on him because I was the champion at the time and he was trying to make his way up…guess you don’t really realize how much work you have to put into the promotion to become a superstar like that.”
McGregor’s mic skills, fighting skills, and undeniably entertaining persona have helped him engrave his name as one of the biggest stars in the fight history of the game, whether inside or outside the Octagon.
