UFC 288 doesn’t seem to get out of the fighters canceling fights at the last minute. UFC President Dana White has had to figure out last minute replacement for UFC 288 fight card yet again. Earlier Charles Oliveira pulled out of the Oliveira vs Dariush fight under the pretext of injury. Dana White replaced that card with Belal Muhammad and Gilbert Burns. Now less than a week before the event, another fighter from the feather division had to pull out due to injury.
Initially, Bryce Mitchell was set to fight against Jonathan Pearce in the featherweight division. But Pearce pulled out of the match, citing injury as the cause. Thus UFC replaced JSP with Movsar Evloev. But suddenly Bryce Mitchell withdrew from the fight too. Dana White informed on social media that Mitchell had a nasty back injury that needed attendance.
“What’s up, guys? Some breaking news about the fight this weekend,” Dana White said on social media. “Movsar was facing Bryce Mitchell. Bryce Mitchell hurt his back in training. He is out, we are bringing in a kid named Diego Lopez, okay?” White went on to praise the Russian fighter Evloev who with a record of 16-0, is currently undefeated in the featherweight division. “If you don’t know who Movsar is, he’s 16-0, he’s an unbelievable grappler, unbelievable puncher and great wrestler. This kid has zero holes in his game, he is a guy that everyone is worried about. He’s ranked number 10 in the featherweight division.”
He also praised Evloev’s new matchup with Diego Lopez for taking the fight on short notice. “He is taking on Diego Lopez now, who is coming in on five days’ notice. This kid’s a great grappler and has a 90% finish rate. I love kids who step up and take opportunities! ”

Charles Oliveira withdrawing from UFC 288

Charles Oliveira and Beneil Dariush were set to face off against each other at UFC 288. However, Oliveira’s injury forced him to retreat from the fight.
Oliveira posted on Instagram stories revealing the reason for withdrawing from UFC 288.“I wasn’t able to train, I got injured during wrestling practice,” Oliveira said. “I tried to train, I tried to do everything I could but we couldn’t, so we pulled out of the fight.” Thus, being unable to train, Oliveira had to withdraw from the fight.
UFC postponed the Oliveira- Dariush fight to UFC 289. Oliveira vs Dariush will now headline the co-main event in Canada at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia.
