Vicente Luque is on a roll right now. The American-born Brazilian recently defeated veteran Michael Chiesa in the main card of UFC 265. An exciting first round saw the Brazilian turn the tide on ‘The Maverick’ executing a stunning D’Arce choke to earn a submission victory.
The win brought up Luque’s fourth consecutive victory in the UFC. He currently has an MMA record of 21 wins and 7 losses, with 1 no-contest. It is worth noting that Luque has never been knocked out in his MMA career. He is certainly on a path to success in the welterweight division.
In a recent interview with Brett Okamoto of ESPN, Vicente Luque reminisced his sparring sessions with Kamaru Usman back in the days. Although, Luque agreed that he got sparked by ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ during the sparring sessions, he stated that he was a much-improved fighter now, and even Usman would agree to the same.

Vicente Luque was quoted as saying, “It is hard to say how many times I trained with him but I did train a lot. At least, 30-40 sparring rounds. At least…Even more than that. I can honestly say that most of the times, I got my a** beat, just because he has always been really good in every discipline. He concluded by saying that he was ready to take on Usman: “I think it’s a different fight right now. Even if we train now I think he would realize, ‘Yeah Vicente has grown a lot, he has really evolved.’ And, that’s why I’m ready to fight against him and really put him in danger and get that title.” [h/t FirstSportz.com]
Usman is set to take on Colby Covington at UFC 268. The event is set to headline the card which is expected to take place at the Madison Square Garden in the first week of November.
