There is still no news regarding Khamzat Chimaev’s next fight and Chael Sonnen believes if Nobody fights him then Chimaev should get the title shot. 

The welterweight division has been a real mess and the match-ups lately are not making much sense. Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington will get to settle their score in the future but that fight is not for the title contender. Leon Edwards finally got his title opportunity against Kumaru Usman after remaining undefeated for 5 long years.

On top of that, Khamzat Chimaev, the fighter who has gained the maximum attention from MMA fans, still has no confirmed fights. Once UFC president, Dana White said that Chimaev can get a title shot but will have to wait for some time. It was decided that Chimaev might take four fights to become the title contender. But in reality, nobody wants to take the fight against the Russians.

Chael Sonnen explains why Khamzat Chimaev should get a title shot soon

Sonnen uploaded a new video on his YouTube channel and there he discussed the inability of welterweight fighters and the upcoming championship bout. Sonnen explained that except for Jorge Masvidal, Colby Covington, Khamzat Chimaev, and Kumaru Usman the whole Welterweight division is very underwhelming.

The former UFC superstar blasted the whole division for not speaking up and only taking the support of their past records to get the fights. “These guys when I tell you are doing nothing, they are talking about what they have already done when in life has that ever got you anywhere. Throw me one example, ” said Sonnen. 

Sonnen explained that the inactivity of other fighters in the division is automatically opening up opportunities for Khamzat Chimaev. But according to Dana White, Chimaev is at least four fights away from a title shot and he has to wait. “What does Khamzat Chimaev has to wait on? Wait for these guys to speak up less, wait for these guys to underwhelm us more,” said Sonnen. 

Sonnen believes that if nobody fights Chimaev and he ends up fighting Vicente Luque and winning against him he should fight for the title. “The argument is real simple Chimaev has four fights, Usman is the greatest fighter in the world which he is,” said Sonnen.
