USC fans feed off the players’ energy isn’t an understatement. When the Trojans went toe-to-toe with the Oregon Ducks at the Coliseum on Saturday, some fans got into a minor brawl in the bleachers.

USC, led by their mercurial quarterback Jayden Maiava, was favored to have a stellar season. The news apparently didn’t reach fans because the turnout at home games has been pretty underwhelming. Empty seats became the USP in the first weeks.

It improved when USC started winning games. They were among the few FBS teams to start the year 4-0 before their big clash against the Ducks. Fans turned out in numbers during the Saturday afternoon clash.

Trojan fans celebrated an early touchdown when Maiava connected with Kayden Dixon-Wyatt for a 31-yard score. The crowd also celebrated when Desman Stephens tanked Oregon quarterback Dante Moore. Stephens was ejected for targeting and displaying unsportsmanlike behavior.

That negative energy crossed over to the fans. Barstool Sports shared a video clip on Twitter showcasing a fight between fans in the stands.

Fan brawls aren’t new during college or NFL games. Several reasons could trigger a brawl, ranging from the dumbest to the most outrageous.

It’s unclear what caused the brawl between the two fans. The individual wearing the USC No. 8, possibly a massive fan of running back King Miller, exchanged punches with the other man in the clip, who was wearing street clothes. Luckily, most of the punches missed their mark; otherwise, the stadium staff would have to rinse red stains for hours.

What happened to Desman Stephens?

It’s easy to get into a football fan’s skin. But it takes something nasty for rival factions to band together and demand strict action.

At first glance, Stephens’ tackle looked ugly. Moore showing concussion symptoms added more fuel to the fire. But Stephens celebrating his hit instead of checking on the injured Ducks quarterback made the situation worse. The referee threw multiple flags and ejected the veteran linebacker.

According to regulations, a player has to hit the showers early if the referee ejects him from the game. But cameras caught Stephens taking his usual spot inside the Trojans dugout, giggling away as if nothing could faze him.

Reporters asked head coach Lincoln Riley about Stephens’ behavior following his tackle on Moore. Riley bluntly said that he “didn’t see it.” When reporters pressed him on why Stephens remained on the sidelines even after the ejection, Riley promptly retorted, “Because he’s on our team.”

USC falls to Oregon

It’s debatable whether Karma caught up to the Trojans or not, but they threw the game completely. Over the last ten to fifteen years, the Ducks have had a generous pipeline of serious NFL talent at quarterback, with big names like Marcus Mariota, Justin Herbert, Bo Nix, and now Moore coming through the door. Dan Lanning added another one in the offseason.

Dylan Raiola, a five-star recruit who spent his initial college years with the Nebraska Cornhuskers, transferred to Eugene in the offseason. Raiola’s camp chose Oregon over others because there were rumors that Moore would declare for the 2026 NFL Draft. But Moore stayed, and Raiola assumed the backup job.

Raiola got his first taste of Ducks football in Week 3, when he threw 3 touchdowns in an 80+ drubbing of Portland State. All said and done, Portland State is no USC, but that did not faze Patrick Mahomes’ “lil’ Cuz.”

Raiola threw a touchdown on his first attempt. He threw a second TD pass with a little over eight minutes left in the fourth quarter. He also set up touchdowns for running backs Dierre Hill Jr. and Jordon Davison.

Meanwhile, Maiava completed 23 of his 42 passes for 326 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception. King Miller rushed for 74 yards on 13 carries. Dixon-Wyatt caught 7 passes for 114 yards and 1 touchdown.

The Ducks won 41-27. Oregon improves to 3-1 while USC is 4-1.
