“I Want to do That 20 More Times,” Victor Wembanyama Sets High Ceiling For Himself After Reaching Maiden NBA Finals

It looks like the NBA is entering a new era, and it belongs to Victor Wembanyama. Since being drafted by the San Antonio Spurs as the number one overall pick in the NBA draft three years ago, Wembanyama has been destined for greatness.

There is no doubt that Wembanyama is already the face of the franchise at 22 and is well on his way of being the face of the league. The Spurs punched their ticket into the NBA Finals after securing a 111-103 victory in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday night.

After the win, Wembanyama was asked what he had learned about himself after the intense seven-game series against the Thunder.

I can go through hurdles that I didn’t know those hurdles could get so high. It’s just pushing through, I found resources inside of me, relentlessness. I already knew that, but doing it at this level, this is the best basketball on the planet that’s being played right now. And the crazy thing is, maybe I’m crazy for that, but I want to do that 15, 20 more times. Let’s hope it doesn’t become an addiction. Maybe it is already.

Victor Wembanyama is playing in his first-ever NBA playoffs. He has impressed the NBA world with his performances and has already broken some records. He has faced criticism for some of his actions during these playoffs, but he has shown everyone that he is here to stay and dominate.

The French star was entering Game 7 with no prior experience of playing in a deciding game. But he showed no signs of nerves as he scored a team-high 22 points to go along with seven rebounds in 42 minutes.

The ceiling for Wembanyama’s potential is limitless. He is expected to dominate the league for the next one or two decades, barring any serious injuries. And it looks like he is already developing a hunger for winning more.

After booking a spot in the NBA Finals, Wembanyama spoke about the possibility of realizing his dream this year.

Winning the Larry O’Brien is a childhood dream and having a real shot at it, having a chance, a tangible chance at winning it, realizing a dream, it’s a lifetime chance. You never know what’s going to happen again. The day we win it, it’s going to be an amazing day of realization of a dream. It’s almost like the meaning of my life.

The New York Knicks await Wembanyama and the Spurs in the NBA Finals. The Knicks are coming off two consecutive clean sweeps, but the Spurs will pose a whole other challenge with Wembanyama leading the way.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander on Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs

After an impressive 2025-26 regular season where they finished in second place in the Western Conference standings, the Spurs were seen as legitimate contenders for the Thunder in the Western Conference. The Spurs beat the defending champions four times in five games in the regular season. Now with a playoff series win, the Spurs have shown that they are the best team in the West.

Following the loss, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander credited Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs for being a great basketball team.

Yeah, I think it’s them as a group in total. They’re a really good group. They play a really good brand of basketball, obviously, he’s the head of that snake, and he’s a little bit different out there than anybody else can be, but yeah, it isn’t just one guy out there. They’re a really good basketball team.

The Spurs have proven to be the Thunder’s kryptonite this season. SGA and the Thunder were looking to go back-to-back this year, but were stopped by a really strong Spurs side.
