The Buffalo Bills will be without star linebacker Von Miller for the next four games. It was announced on Tuesday that the NFL has suspended him without pay over violations stemming from the league’s personal conduct policy.
Von Miller is being penalized for his alleged assault of his pregnant girlfriend in November 2023 during the Bills’ bye-week in Dallas. The police had confirmed after preliminary investigations that a warrant for a third-degree felony charge of assaulting a pregnant person had been issued for Miller.
He turned himself in to the Glenn Heights Police Department and was processed before being released on a $5,000 bond. The linebacker has maintained his innocence since the incident was made public. He brushed the allegations as “100 percent false” and claimed the case was closed.
The NFL conducted separate investigation into Von Miller’s alleged assault on his pregnant girlfriend
The league awaits until the due process of law concludes. Once the legal proceedings are done, it begins an investigation.
In this instance, the NFL conducted its investigation into the allegations brought against Miller and the suspension was a result of its findings. Von Miller was allowed to play through the rest of the 2023 season.
As per documents obtained by ESPN, Von Miller allegedly put both of his hands on the woman’s neck for three to five seconds, then proceeded to pull her hair and shoved her as she attempted to gather her things and leave the apartment. This caused the woman to tell Miller she was going to call the police after which the linebacker left the residence.
The police found that the injuries on the woman’s neck and left hand were “injuries consistent with applied pressure to the neck.” Von Miller addressed the situation in December 2023 and deemed the allegations as being false.
The NFL considered putting Miller on the Commissioner’s exempt list but based on the facts available at the time, it did not deem it to be the right move. The Bills will miss Miller’s impact on defense up until Week 8 after which he can apply for reinstatement.
So far, through the season, he had three sacks. He will have to watch the Bills from the sidelines as the team goes up against Houston, New York, Tennessee, and Seattle in the coming weeks.
