WATCH: Amidst Red Bull RB-19 floor talks, Adrian Newey sneaked into the Mercedes pits with his notebook to spy on the W14 at Monaco GP
Red Bull's Adrian Newey sneaked a peek at the Mercedes W14 and took some notes ahead of the Monaco GP.

The Red Bull squad has excelled in their 2023 Championship campaign till now, all thanks to their RB-19 racecar. Surpassing all their heavyweight rivals like Mercedes and Ferrari, the team from Milton-Keynes are now on their way towards a second consecutive Formula 1 title since they attained it last year as well. Because of their mighty cars and talented line-up consisting of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez, Red Bull have successfully ended Mercedes’ unilateral dominance which lasted for 8 long years between 2014 to 2021.
At the Miami GP, Max Verstappen had an unfortunate outing on the Saturday before the main race. While he was preparing for a flying lap in the Q3 round, Charles Leclerc crashed at turn 7, causing the Qualis to get suspended. This resulted in the Dutchman starting the Miami GP from P9, with his fans worrying that he would not be able to win the top spot. But in the end, because of the incredible straight-line speed of the RB-19, Max Verstappen managed to make up eight places to end the race in P1 within 57 laps.
Owing to the display of the RB19’s performance in the first five races of this season, everyone was curious about the floor of the car which is primarily responsible for the pace. When Sergio Perez‘s car crashed at the Monaco Grand Prix in Qualifying and it was lifted by the crane, everyone flocked to see the details on the flooring to unlock the secrets to Red Bull’s pace. In the middle of this overt interest in the RB-19, Adrian Newey, the Chief Engineer of Red Bull Racing, was spotted amongst the Mercedes crew members, taking notes of the W14 racecar.

The two biggest strengths of any team when it comes to Formula 1 are its drivers and its racecar. The W14 of Mercedes, although thought to be a much faster car than the W13 of last year, proved to be incompetent as it could not keep up with the speed of Red Bull and Aston Martin. Still, Adrian Newey has taken quite an interesting in the inner workings of the Merc machine, thus he went to the rival base to take notes on the W14’s make.
In other news, Mercedes’ own customer team Aston Martin have emerged as the surprising challenger in this year’s F1 season. The Silverstone outfit has already secured the second spot in the Championship standings right behind Red Bull, and their star racer Fernando Alonso is currently nurturing an impressive record of five podium wins in six races till now. In fact, in Monaco, Nando took full advantage of Sergio Perez’s faults as he captured the second spot in the race, narrowly missing out on a Grand Prix victory to Max Verstappen.
