There are a few scenarios where both drivers will end up with the same number of points. The first scenario would be if the drivers finish ninth and tenth. Should the driver who finishes in tenth also take the fastest lap of the race, then both rivals would be at level points. Another scenario could be if both drivers DNF without taking fastest lap, leaving them with the same amount of points.

So who would win in such a scenario? Should this occur, it will be Max Verstappen who takes the world championship, denying Hamilton a record breaking eighth championship. Verstappen would win on the total number of Grand Prix won in the 2021 season, which in nine as compared to Hamilton’s eight wins.

If Verstappen wins the world Championship he will be the first Red Bull driver since Sebastian Vettel to take the title for the team. If Lewis were to win the title, he would break Michael Schumacher’s record of seven championships by picking up his eighth title. Regardless, the F1 world is in for one of the most exciting races of the decade, as the season concludes with the last race of the season in Abu Dhabi.
