SummerSlam 2023 is just a few hours away, and the excitement of the fans is on a different level. Numerous matches have been announced, and there is a chance that a few more might be added to the card. The show is going to have a Tribal Combat match between Roman Reigns and Jey Uso in the main event of the night.
Superstars like Brock Lesnar, Cody Rhodes, Finn Balor and Seth Rollins are featured on the show. However, fans are wondering if there are some twists and turns that WWE might have for their biggest event after WrestleMania. For the past three years, SummerSlam has seen some of the biggest returns.
The WWE Universe saw returns from stars like Roman Reigns in 2020, Brock Lesnar and Becky Lynch in 2021, and the Damage CTRL in 2022. Therefore, it remains to be seen what WWE has in mind for the event. Additionally, there are multiple matches on the card that can have a surprise ending.

4. Damian Priest becomes the new World Heavyweight Champion
Seth Rollins vs. Finn Balor for the World Heavyweight Championship is one of the most intriguing matches on the SummerSlam card. The two competitors share a long history and had a SummerSlam match in 2016 for the inaugural Universal Championship. However, this time around, Damian Priest has also been a factor in the feud.
Damian Priest won the MITB ladder match in July and has teased his intentions of cashing it on Seth Rollins, who is the World Heavyweight Champion. Therefore, fans should expect an appearance from Priest during or after the match, as he will likely try to win the Championship. This could be a shocking outcome, as Damian Priest has been a serious threat to Rollins in the past few weeks.
3. Bray Wyatt makes his return in Ford Field
Since returning to WWE in October last year, Bray Wyatt had a short-lived run in the company until April. He was suddenly taken off WWE programming due to an undisclosed injury. Therefore, he failed to create any impact on the fans in his second run. He only had one match against LA Knight at the Royal Rumble, which was disappointing for the fans.
It has been rumored for weeks that WWE has plans for Wyatt to return at SummerSlam. This could happen as he was in a feud with Bobby Lashley before he got injured, and the two were supposed to face each other at WrestleMania 39. However, nothing has been confirmed, and fans should hope that the leader of the Wyatt Family returns to WWE soon.
2. Drew McIntyre ends Gunther’s historic streak
Intercontinental Champion Gunther has easily become one of the greatest Champions in the title’s history. He has had exceptional matches with almost everyone on the roster and has been portrayed as an absolute beast. Therefore, when Drew McIntyre returned to Money In The Bank and confronted Gunther for his title, fans started speculating the outcome of their match.
In the past year, multiple men tried to take The Ring General down but failed to do so. Sheamus and McIntyre both failed to defeat Gunther at WrestleMania in an excellent triple-threat match. However, Drew McIntyre was the closest to defeating Gunther out of all the people. Therefore, McIntyre might finally surmount the odds at SummerSlam and win the IC title, dethroning the Ring General.
1. The Rock returns and confronts Grayson Waller
Grayson Waller has impressed the management in WWE, which is evident from the level of push he has received since coming on the main roster. In the first month of his callup, the Arrogant Aussie faced off against John Cena in London and wrestled Edge in his debut match in the main event at MSG. However, this does not stop, as for the past few weeks, Waller has been poking Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson online and in the interviews backstage on SmackDown.
The Rock only reacted once to Waller’s comments. However, The Great One might show up at SummerSlam to a thunderous reaction and confront Grayson Waller. If The Rock returns to WWE at SummerSlam, that would mark his first appearance in WWE in over four years. He was last seen in late 2019 on SmackDown.
