“I messaged Conor McGregor – Hey I’m robbing one of your lines,” reveals Smackdown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch

Lynch and McGregor

Becky Lynch made her surprise return at WWE Summerslam 2021. She received a massive pop from the live crowd in Las Vegas. But the fact that The Man had turned Heel was even more surprising than her return itself! The first thing she did as a Heel was to challenge one of the biggest babyfaces in the company currently, Bianca Belair, for the Smackdown Women’s Championship.

Lynch shocked the WWE Universe when she pinned Belair in a record time of 26 seconds to win the title. The same week, the new Smackdown Women’s Champion appeared on the Blue brand and delivered a solid promo – seemingly confirming her Heel turn. While a small section of the crowed booed her, Lynch delivered a line which was seemingly inspired from the first double Champ of UFCConor McGregor.

“I hear you, I hear you. There has been a lot of controversy about my return. A lot of people talking about my actions and saying that I was underhanded, and alright, alright. I would like to take this time and say that I am sorry… for absolutely nothing!” mentioned Lynch.

Several fans quickly pointed out that the line “I am sorry for absolutely nothing” was quite similar to McGregor’s comments at the post-fight interview of UFC 205. In a recent interview with BT Sport, the Smackdown Women’s Champion confirmed that the similarities were in fact, intention. Becky Lynch mentioned that she had messaged McGregor and informed him that she would be “robbing” his lines!

Conor McGregor won the lightweight belt from Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205, and was already holding the featherweight title – making him the first fighter in UFC history to hold titles in two weight divisions simultaneously. In the post-fight interview McGregor had mentioned, “Backstage, I’m starting fights with everybody. I’ve ridiculed everyone on the roster. I just want to say from the bottom of my heart, I’d like to take this chance to apologize…to absolutely nobody. The double champ does what the f*** he wants!”

Banks interrupted the Smackdown Women’s Championship match

Since winning the Smackdown Women’s Championship at Summerslam, Becky Lynch put the title on the line for the first time at WWE Extreme Rules 2021 against Bianca Belair. The two Superstars put up, arguably, the best match of the night. But a surprise interruption from Sasha Banks allowed Lynch to retain via disqualification.

Interestingly, Lynch had replaced Sasha Banks at “The Biggest Party of the Summer”, after Banks was not medically cleared to compete. But now Banks is back and she wants the title. This seemingly sets up a triple-threat feud between Lynch, Belair and Banks. The match is likely to take place at WWE Survivor Series.
