WWE Day 1 was a jam-packed show, and while certain items had to be adjusted, one huge shocker went off without a hitch. Beth Phoenix only recently retired from NXT commentary, but it didn’t take long for her to return to the main roster.

Beth had enough of Maryse trying to interfere in the match between the Miz and Edge before she finally decided to make her way to the ring to even the odds.

The Miz and Maryse tried everything they could to get under Edge’s blood, but the Rated R Superstar’s spouse could only tolerate so much before taking action.

Maryse was trying to get entangled near the end of The Miz and Edge’s fight when Beth Phoenix appeared. Miz had lots of support from his wife Maryse at ringside all through the match. Maryse struck Edge with a bag near the end of the bout, allowing Miz to get a close pinfall after delivering a skull-crushing finale.

The Glamazon’s music started playing, and she came down agitated. Maryse was chased away by Beth Phoenix, who then speared The Miz for the victory. This was a fantastic way to close the game. We’ll have to wait and see if it finally leads to a mixed-tag team battle, as many have predicted.

While it was exciting to see Phoenix, the three-time Women’s Champion and one-time Divas Champion, arrive on Day 1, we believe that there was a minor technical issue.

When Phoenix first ascended the stage, her music waited a few seconds to kick in, leaving the crowd with a few seconds of Phoenix lingering in solitude and striking furious faces at the top of the entrance ramp, before she eventually made her way to the ring after her entrance theme came in.

Beth confirmed in early December that her last show on commentary for the NXT brand would be last month’s WarGames special. Since then, many had theorised that she would be engaged in the Edge and the Miz‘s continuing feud at some point.
