Why former WWE NXT Champion Finn Balor chose Smackdown over Raw?

Former WWE NXT Champion Finn Balor made his shocking return to the main roster, last week on Smackdown.

NXT Champion Finn Balor’s glorious run ended on the black-and-gold brand when Karrion Kross returned. Balor tried a couple of times to win his title back, but the brutal bouts always ended in favour of Kross.

Balor has now moved back to the main roster. He shocked the WWE Universe, including the returning live fans during last week’s Smackdown episode. Former NXT Champion Finn Balor’s appearance was one of the big surprises that WWE had planned for the first show in front of the live audience.

Finn Balor recently revealed that why he decided to appear resume his main roster run on Smackdown, rather than on Raw. The Prince recently appeared on WWE’s The Bump, where he explained his preference of the Blue brand over the Red brand.

“I have a lot of unfinished business with the Universal Championship. It’s something that gets brought up all the time, ‘What if you had not have got hurt?’ or ‘What if things had been different?’ For me, it was the journey and what made me the man that I am today, I am very grateful for how it panned out, I wouldn’t change it,” Balor mentioned. “But…there’s still…I feel like there’s something that has to be revisited with the Universal Championship, and that is why I am back on SmackDown.”

Former NXT Champion Finn Balor was last seen on the main roster, when he faced The Fiend at Summerslam. It was the first appearance of The Fiend, inside the ring. Balor faced a crushing defeat and was not seen on the main roster against, until now.

Former NXT Champion Finn Balor returned on Smackdown and confronted Sami Zayn, hinting at a possible feud with him through WWE Summerslam. While Balor has made it clear that he wants to go after the Universal Championship, but he will have to work his way to the top again.

The Universal Championship currently sits comfortably on Roman Reigns’ shoulder. The title will also be on the line at Summerslam, when The Tribal Chief faces the biggest Superstar of the company, John Cena.

WWE Summerslam airs live on 21st August, 2021.
