Unfazed by the euphoria of The New Day‘s periodic acclaim in WWE, a current AEW name wasn’t impressed with one of its members. The AEW personality was none other than WWE legend Big Show, aka Paul Wight, who wanted Kofi Kingston to part ways with his buddies and go hunting for singles glory in the business. Big E made the revelation while speaking on the UnDrafted AllStarz Podcast Show.
He began with the integration of the group they call The New Day. However, to achieve what they did as a stable, Kofi Kingston, Big E, and Xavier Woods had to turn a bl*nd eye to several extraneous noises. One of those came from Big Show when he pulled Kofi aside and warned him of wasting his career.
However, Show realized his mistake and later apologized to them, as he hadn’t initially seen the vision those guys had. Kofi Kingston proved his doubters wrong when he became the WWE Champion at WrestleMania 35. While still aligned with Big E and Xavier Woods, the African wrestler turned the heat on to pip Daniel Bryan and got his WrestleMania moment in front of a packed house at the MetLife Stadium.
We had like Big Show pulling Kofi aside, ‘What are you doing with those two? You’re wasting your career.’ He came back later and apologized because sometimes people don’t see the vision.Big E on UnDrafted AllStarz Podcast Show
He had a decent run with the title until he met Brock Lesnar, and the honeymoon period was over. During the fall of 2019, Kofi saw his heyday and became immensely popular among the fans. He even waged an intense rivalry against Randy Orton.
Vince McMahon tried to break up The New Day
Until Vince McMahon had the creative say in WWE, he left no stone unturned to try to break The New Day, per Fightful Select. Back in 2021, when Xavier Woods became the King of the Ring, McMahon had a pitch for Woods to turn on Kofi Kingston. However, it didn’t happen.
Way before in 2019, just when Kofi had tasted the WWE Championship gold, Vinnie Mac once again tried to stir the pot. However, Xavier, in particular, was adamant about staying together with Kofi and E. Apart from this, Vince tried to use the WWE Draft to separate the three individuals.
Nonetheless, he somewhat achieved his goal when Big E was drafted to SmackDown back in 2020. Whereas Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods were picked by Raw. However, they later reunited and were together for Big E’s WWE Championship-winning moment.
