The Rock made a cameo return to WWE this year in September. No one at the Ball Arena had a clue what was going to strike them until The Great One blew the roof off. Even if it was a one-time appearance, the rumor mill reacted nimbly. Rock’s SmackDown appearance sparked unbridled speculation regarding his potential involvement at WrestleMania 40.

Some even thought he’d pip Cody Rhodes, the outright favorite to challenge Roman Reigns in Philly this year. However, The American Nightmare doesn’t believe that anyone can take his spot, not even The Brahma Bull. During a recent interview with The Busted Open Radio, Cody vowed to outrun everyone en route to his redemption arc. He said that’s how The Rock used to think during his heyday.

I'm not flinching — I'm going to do everything I can to make sure you know it's me. That's the same attitude The Rock had when he was climbing the ladder. I don't care who it is. A wonderful superstar like LA Knight, a stellar performer like Sami Zayn. Line them up & I'm going to do everything I can to outrun them.

Rhodes name dropped guys like LA Knight and Sami Zayn, whom he would love to overcome. However, it appears like he’s pretty confident that destiny will take him to the battleground he came up short on this year in Los Angeles. At WrestleMania 39, The Prodigal Son couldn’t break through the numbers game from The Bloodline. As a result, Roman Reigns barely managed to cross the line against Dusty’s baby boy.

What’s The Rock’s WrestleMania status following SAG-AFTRA’s settlement?

As Cody Rhodes mentioned in the above-listed interview, it would be great if The Rock did participate at WrestleMania 40. Going by the current scenario, the long-awaited dream match between Roman Reigns and The Rock is not planned for The Showcase of the Immortals next year.

It would’ve happened this year had there not been a late change in plans. Moreover, The Rock, the man they now recognize more as Dwayne Johnson, is about to get back to his Hollywood duties. Following the recent settlement of the SAG-AFTRA strike, the actors can head back to the sets.

That being said, it now becomes even more difficult for The Rock to compete in The City of Brotherly Love. At the bare minimum, WWE can line him up for a one-off appearance directly at WrestleMania in 2024.
