Cody Rhodes has been the ultimate babyface in the company since his arrival in 2022. He has been receiving thunderous reactions and support from the fans, regardless of the arena. Rhodes was asked during the AMA session in the Squared Circle subreddit what he would do once WWE fans started booing him.
The American Nightmare hilariously replied that he has been hearing that fans will turn on him at any moment for the last two years. “I have been told that by Twitter it’s going to start any day now…for the past 2 years,” he said. It was a shot at the speculation that fans have been making on Twitter.
The American Nightmare is optimistic that he can ‘finish the story’ for his family. WWE has been trying their best to present Cody as the ultimate babyface, just like they presented John Cena before. The Cenation Leader once lost to The Rock at WrestleMania, only to have rematch at the next year’s Mania to get the win.
The storyline between Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes has many similarities and parallels to the iconic The Rock and John Cena storyline from 2012-13. A rematch between Roman and Cody would be perfect for the next WrestleMania. It could be the perfect end to the rivalry between the biggest heel and the biggest babyface in the company.
Cody returned from his injury at the 2023 Royal Rumble match, where he went on to win the match. He straight-up challenged Roman Reigns for the Undisputed World Titles at WrestleMania 39 but lost to the latter. A majority of the fans still believe that the American Nightmare could be the one to dethrone Roman Reigns next year at The Showcase of The Immortals.

On the last episode of Monday Night Raw, the main event saw Cody Rhodes teaming up with the Undisputed Tag Team Champions to take on the Judgment Day. The main event started out as a regular tag team match between the heel faction and Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens. However, KO hit Balor with the Money In The Bank briefcase to cause a disqualification.
The main event was then restarted when Cody came to Owens’ and Zayn’s rescue from a beatdown by the Judgment Day. The six-man tag team match ended in favor of the Undisputed Tag Team Champions and the American Nightmare. Owens pulled a stunner on Dom to get the win.
Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn have been the champions since WrestleMania 39, but WWE failed to book them in a proper storyline for the titles. With the company seemingly having no plans for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship, it could potentially insert Zayn and Owens in a multi-person match at Payback.
