The huge hype built around Cody Rhodes is his will to finish his story. The American Nightmare wants to win the World Championship, which his father, Dusty Rhodes, could not capture in his lifetime. Now that the WWE Championship is no longer counted, Cody wishes to get the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. For that, he has to dethrone Roman Reigns, an idea that seems to have dropped now.
As reported by Sports Illustrated, major sources close to Triple H have stated Rhodes’ future. The unfortunate news indicates that Cody is not scheduled to main event WrestleMania 40. Nor his ‘story finish’ would be happening to keep his story longing. It does not confirm what Cody will have on his plate, entering The Grandest Stage of Them All. But Reigns might have The Rock in his way.

Rocky’s recent statement about facing Roman at Mania, shapes the rumors of their dream match. The likely scenario would have him confront The Tribal Chief near future to challenge for a title match in the main event of WrestleMania. This opportunity might arrive as soon as Royal Rumble 2024.

If not for Reigns, it is expected that Cody will face his former AEW roster mate, CM Punk. In a battle that will define who has had a better comeback to WWE after experiencing the setback previously. The recent promo on Raw proved how brutal Rhodes and Punk can get just on a mic. But when brought into the ring, the stars will have a remarkable moment, forcing the crowd to polarize over the babyfaces.
Cody Rhodes still has hopes for his WrestleMania 40 rematch
WWE is the hottest it has ever been, with multiple record-breaks, and megastars drawing attention to financial success. The Company has achieved it all in the past year and continues to do so. In such a situation, a crucial decision about WrestleMania 40 would shape the entirety of 2024 and highly affect them. One of those moments would have to deal with Cody Rhodes’ match at The Grandest Stage of Them All.

In a recent interview with Bleacher Report, Rhodes mentioned The Rock being added to the mix against Roman Reigns and nixing his opportunity. Cody stated that he has respect for Rocky while adding that he is indeed a huge fan. For this very reason, Cody somehow thinks that The Great One will not intervene in their plans and disrupt the story that WWE has told for over a year.
Nothing but respect. I'm a Rock fan. I don't think he's the type that would come in & meddle with a story that's been being told over the past two years.Cody Rhodes about The Rock’s inclusion at WrestleMania 40
The American Nightmare also thinks that The People’s Champion is surely up to something and might have his match against The Head of the Table. But again, he glorified WWE’s unpredictability, stating, nothing could be said surely at this point. The whole statement gives Cody and his fans, hope, entering not only Mania but also the Royal Rumble.
