Dominik Mysterio became a 2-time North American Champion on the most recent edition of NXT. The third-generation wrestler won the title just three days after losing it against Trick Williams. Moreover, he escaped the wrath of his on-screen partner, Rhea Ripley. The latter gave Dominik a fierce ultimatum on RAW, warning him of the consequences if he failed to come home with the championship.
Therefore, it was seemingly a win-or-die situation for him. Despite receiving no help at No Mercy, the entire Judgment Day and JD McDonagh accompanied Dom this week on NXT. It would be safe to say that he wouldn’t have secured the win without the help of the faction. The closing sequence saw Dominik Mysterio distracting the referee, which allowed Finn Balor to clog Williams with the title.
Furthermore, the 26-year-old hit a frog splash on his opponent to win back the championship. Dominik’s victory was surprising, to say the least. Many fans believed that a new storyline building around the tension between The Judgment Day couple was brewing. However, it looks like things have gotten back on track.
However, others speculated that this might be a last-minute change for next week’s episode of NXT, which is scheduled to go head-to-head with AEW Dynamite. Interestingly, all of The Judgment Day members are now back to holding championships. Previously, Rhea Ripley was agitated for this exact reason while confronting Dominik Mysterio on RAW.
Rey Mysterio talks about facing Dominik Mysterio at WrestleMania
Dominik Mysterio has risen in prominence since turning on his father, Rey Mysterio, last year. The pair squared off at this year’s WrestleMania, in which the legendary luchador emerged victorious. Recently, Rey Mysterio addressed his opinion on facing his son at the Showcase of Immortals.
During an appearance on Kevin Hart’s show, Cold as Balls, the Hall of Famer revealed that it was an incredible experience. First, he hilariously told Kevin that he would whoop his son’s a** despite their height difference. Furthermore, Rey Mysterio claimed that he believed Dominik drew inspiration from him.
“So I faced him for the very first time at WrestleMania this past year. Oh my God! Incredible. Best feeling in the world. But I whooped his a**,” said Rey. Needless to say, the animosity between father and son is far from over. However, it seems that they are both enjoying the current on-screen rivalry.
