Former WWE writer takes a fiery jab at Becky Lynch’s rise to stardom and names Rhea Ripley as the female wrestler of 2023

Christmas is almost here, and the year is about to end. Former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr. recently announced the inaugural year-end awards on his podcast. However, while naming Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley as his women’s wrestler of the year, Freddie made an extremely contentious claim that would upset Becky Lynch fans.

Speaking on Wrestling with Freddie, he said that, unlike Becky, Rhea did not have her nose broken to get over among the WWE Universe. That was a direct shot at Lynch’s infamous brawl on Raw a few years ago. On that night, Nia Jax‘s booming forearm caught Becky’s nose, and it started bleeding. The two women are currently involved in a feud over this very incident.

However, talking about Rhea Ripley, Prinze Jr. heaped tons of praise for what she has become. It was all because of her consistent growth and continued character evolution. The then-SmackDown lead writer even weighed in on the possibility of a match between Ripley and Lynch, which he heard on the grapevine.

She didn't have a moment like Becky with the bloody nose and standing in the crowd that made her. It's been a slow, long development of a story that was written for her.

Both Rhea and Becky have their respective matches set for WWE Raw: Day 1. The Eradicator will defend her title against Ivy Nile, and The Man is scheduled for a first-time-ever matchup against Nia Jax.

Is Rhea Ripley vs. Becky Lynch expected to happen at WrestleMania 40?

As discussed above, Becky Lynch and Rhea Ripley do have a very bright chance of possibly crossing paths at next year’s WrestleMania. They have had a couple of intense staredowns here and there.

Apart from Lynch, there does not seem to be a bigger matchup for Rhea at the pop-culture extravaganza in Philadelphia. Though it’s not certain by any means, Becky Lynch could find herself winning next year’s Royal Rumble match. And it would leave her with a choice of her opponent.

As she recently stated in an interview with Strutting from Gorilla, it’s time for her to take that title off The Judgment Day‘s centerpiece. The Irish woman even mentioned that Rhea’s reign has been fraught with a lack of title defenses.
