For weeks, LA Knight has been looking for an opponent to face at WrestleMania as the Show of Shows heads to LA this year. Now, the SmackDown superstar just might get his wish fulfilled as he is reportedly in line for a high-profile match against “Stone Cold” Steve Austin.

According to Fightful Select, WWE is looking to have Steve Austin for a WrestleMania match this year as well. Some names were pitched to the Texas RattleSnake, but these were not marquee matches. Among these names, LA Knight was one that was pitched. Fightful writes, “LA Knight was a name rumored online, and we can confirm that’s at least been pitched. However, nobody close to Austin or in WWE has been able to verify that it’s happening as of yet.”

LA Knight has never wrestled at the Grandest Stage before. Hence, having a match against one of the top superstars in wrestling history will be a dream come true for him. Over at SmackDown, the 40-year-old superstar is slowly finding his groove as the mid-card heel, having some matches and promos here and there.

For the past few weeks, though, Knight has not been on a dream run, to say the least. Despite repeating, “you can’t have a WrestleMania in LA without LA Knight” every week, the SmackDown superstar has been on a losing streak. He has lost all his matches since fighting Bray Wyatt at the Royal Rumble. This included the fatal five-way match this past Friday and the singles match against Cody Rhodes on Raw this week.

Stone Cold’s Hall of Fame career was cut short in 2003 when he suffered a neck injury. While he has remained a part of WWE over the years, stunning people every now and then, it was not until last year that he made his official in-ring return. The Texas Rattlesnake returned at WrestleMania 38 in his hometown to have an “impromptu” match against Kevin Owens.

Since then, WWE has tried to have the WWE Hall of Famer compete again in the ring. Earlier this year, it was reported that other names were pitched to Steve Austin, even before LA Knight. The two biggest names out of these were Brock Lesnar and the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, Roman Reigns. However, nothing came of it, and both of them now have their WrestleMania plans sorted. Nevertheless, the pop at SoFi Stadium would be electric if Steve Austin managed to have another match at the Showcase of the Immortals.
