Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is one of the biggest attractions in sports entertainment history. Whenever the Great One pops around in the WWE, fans’ eyes are always glued to their screens. Such is The Rock’s presence that his segment on this week’s Day 1 edition of Raw gained the most viewership on the night.

According to Wrestlenomics, the WWE legend’s appearance gained an additional 250,000 viewers. As a result, a total of 2,154,000 tuned in to watch The Rock lay the ‘SmackDown’ on Jinder Mahal. Therefore, proving that the Brahma Bull is still, to this day, a massive draw in professional wrestling.

In addition to this, the company’s social media platforms saw a surge in viewership numbers for videos related to Dwayne’s return. This was undoubtedly impressive as Monday Night Raw competed against the College Football Playoffs. On average, almost 1.8 million viewers turned up to watch the special episode. Evidently, WWE stacked the card with two World Title bouts along with The Rock’s appearance.

After delivering the People’s Elbow on The Modern Day Maharaja, the former World Champion got on the microphone to finally call out his cousin, Roman Reigns. Needless to say, this was not the last of The Rock showing up on WWE television this year. It will be interesting to see how the Tribal Chief responds to the People’s Champion on SmackDown.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s segment on Raw reportedly went overtime

When Triple H seemingly confirmed the reports of a former WWE Champion appearing on Day 1, many fans were buzzing online. However, the San Diego crowd was in shock as Jinder Mahal showed up as the ‘huge’ reveal. Moments later, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson interrupted and proceeded to insult him. The segment went notably long, stretching over 20 minutes.

According to Fightful via Ringside News, the segment went seven minutes over the scheduled time. This was clear, as the women’s tag team match following it lasted only five minutes. Therefore, it’s more than likely that time was cut short.

The WWE Universe pointed out that while The Rock’s return was ‘electrifying’, he didn’t need much time to deliver the intended message. However, his bombshell statement has definitely added intrigue to the road to WrestleMania 40.
