Having last held a Saudi Arabia PLE in November, WWE is eyeing the first one in 2024. And there’s been some follow-up on it. Per PWInsider, the company is targeting late May to stage a return in the Middle East. That falls over a month later than WrestleMania 40. That’s exactly how WWE proceeded with its PLE calendar last year.
The Night of Champions 2023 emanated from the Jeddah Superdome on May 27. And guess what? A date closer to that is what seems plausible this year as well. A corroborative statement entails that there’s currently no SmackDown listed for May 24 on Friday, as pointed out by John Clark on X. That leaves the following day, May 25, a virtual lock for the inevitable premium live event.

As WWE heads close to that mark, the speculations are going to come into play. Following last year’s snub of the King and Queen of the Ring concept that ended up getting replaced by Night of Champions, the fans were hopeful of its return. Then, a report from Fightful Select underscored that WWE officials in the know hadn’t heard of any pitches to stage the scrapped PLE concept later in the year. And it didn’t happen either.
However, this year could be the one. WWE last crowned a King and Queen back in 2021. Xavier Woods and Zelina Vega were the respective holders of that honor. It would be interesting to see if the upcoming wrestling rendezvous in Saudi Arabia brings back a memory or two. The match card will heavily depend on what goes down in Philadelphia at The Showcase of the Immortals.
Who closed out the night the last time WWE was in Saudi Arabia?
On November 4, 2023, WWE Crown Jewel embellished the city of Riyadh. The show marked John Cena‘s return to singles competition, where he eventually lost to Solo Sikoa. The fans were heavily disappointed with how the 16-time World Champion was fed to The Enforcer.

And, in the main event, Roman Reigns defended his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against LA Knight. As one would expect, it was the biggest night of Knight’s career as he went down fighting The Bloodline. The ever-so-predictable shenanigans proved way too handy for The Megastar to combat.
That brought a disastrous close to the former Eli Drake‘s aspirations of capturing the top prize in WWE. While averting an upset, Reigns also scripted history. His title defense against The Defiant One was the 4th time Reigns headlined a PLE in Saudi Arabia, the most by any WWE Superstar to date.
