3 possible reasons why CM Punk signed with Raw over SmackDown
CM Punk has been signed to Monday Night Raw, which has opened the door to possibilities heading into the future.

This week’s Raw witnessed some pivotal moments moving forward. The highlight of the show was the return of the Best in the World, CM Punk, on Raw. The show was from Cleveland, Ohio, and the elephant in the room was regarding which brand the former World Champion would choose. CM Punk was featured throughout the week on the shows, and WWE promoted that his decision is important as it concerns the future of the Second City Saint.
CM Punk showed up on Raw with energy and delivered an incredible promo. The Best in the World was quick in making his decision and chose Raw as his brand moving forward. Ever since the Second City Saint made his decision, the question of the possible reason for him to choose the Red Brand has been on the minds of the fans.
SmackDown already has enough star power
SmackDown has been the top show for WWE for a couple of years. The show features the incredible star power of Roman Reigns. Therefore, he has been the main attraction of the Blue brand for over three years. Including Reigns, SmackDown has newly signed Randy Orton as well, which makes the show more powerful in terms of star power than Raw.
Therefore, keeping CM Punk on the Red Brand gives the show an edge over SmackDown. Punk might work as the face of Monday Night Raw, while Roman Reigns will continue to be the face of SmackDown. This way, both the USA Network and FOX will have equal star power leading their respective shows.
To give CM Punk his WrestleMania moment
The world knows that CM Punk has never main-evented WrestleMania. In fact, as per some, it was one of his reasons to leave WWE in 2014. It would be incomplete if the Best in the World went away without headlining the Showcase of the Immortals. Staying on Raw will give the Second City Saint a better chance to fulfill his dream.
CM Punk might go up against Seth Rollins, where both superstars can main event WrestleMania. It has been rumored that WWE is planning Second City Saint vs. The Visionary as the main event of Night 1 of WrestleMania. If Punk had chosen SmackDown, there would have been less opportunity for him to be in the main event of the Grandest Stage of Them All next year.
To delay the inevitable Roman Reigns vs. CM Punk feud
Ever since CM Punk returned to WWE at Survivor Series, fans have been buzzing regarding his dream matches in WWE. One of the most hyped matches is the Best in the World facing Roman Reigns. WWE knows it is a huge feud. Therefore, they have some future plans for the two.
However, at this point, it is very early to pull the trigger and have a straight-up feud between Punk and the Tribal Chief. If the Second City Saint had chosen SmackDown and had not gone after Roman Reigns, it wouldn’t have made any sense. Therefore, WWE might have kept the Straight Edge Superstar on Raw to keep him away from the Bloodline leader.
