The real story behind Stephanie McMahon’s appointment as the interim CEO of WWE has come out. According to recent reports circulating in the WWE community,  a special Committee made up of eight members of the WWE Board of Directors reportedly decided to nominate Stephanie for the position.

It has been understood that the four Board members who weren’t in the decision-making procedure were Stephanie herself, her father Vince McMahon, her husband Paul “Triple H” Levesque, and Nick Khan.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, even though Vince made the decision to retire from his business responsibilities, he abstained from the selection of his temporary replacement.

Meltzer claimed that some WWE execs wanted to “bury her on her way out” when Stephanie went on leave last month. Interestingly, around that time, a Business Week report stated that several senior individuals in the company believed the wrestling entertainment organization was “underperforming” in terms of generating ad revenue with Stephanie the designation of the Chief Brand Officer.

According to the story, Vince made the choice for Stephanie to quit rather than Stephanie herself, citing the dearth of new sponsorship deals obtained while she was in charge.

It’s interesting to note that Meltzer also said that none of the Board members who had planned to oust Stephanie were involved in her election as the WWE Chief.

Many of the performers backstage were thrilled to know that Stephanie McMahon has been given control of the organization. One prominent celebrity informed the publication that Stephanie’s position as their interim boss “f—ing rules.”

Less than a week after Stephanie McMahon assumed control, Triple H returned to the WWE Performance Center to take over the duties he had walked away from after his cardiac arrest the previous year. Upon his return to WWE earlier this year, Triple H’s responsibilities apparently differed greatly from those they had been before his hiatus. Earlier this week, Triple H firmly asserted, “I’m back,” which would mean he’s returned to take up a key role in NXT.
