AEW Grand Slam saw a battle between Sammy Guevara, student, and Chris Jericho, teacher. The latter ended up securing the win with a codebreaker. However, the post-match segment gained more attention online as Guevara recreated one of Jericho’s biggest moments of his career. The former TNT Champion took a page out of his mentor’s book by betraying him exactly the same way he did at WrestleMania 19 with Shawn Michaels.
Similar to the build of this bout, Chris Jericho challenged his hero HBK in 2003 at The Showcase of the Immortals. However, he would end up losing and low-blowing the Heart-Break Kid after embracing. Twenty years later, Y2J got a taste of his own medicine against Sammy Guevara.
In fact, both wrestlers wore the exact same color of wrestling attire. Sammy wore blue and white trunks to match the colors of Chris’ attire in 2003. Meanwhile, the veteran himself donned black and red attire to match Shawn Michaels‘ appearance. Therefore, it was a well-executed segment by the former Jericho Appreciation Society members.
Afterwards, Sammy Guevara seemingly joined forces with Don Callis, who briefly had issues with the former AEW World Champion. A rematch between the pair is expected to take place at the upcoming pay-per-view WrestleDream. Moreover, a stipulation is rumored to be added to the bout as well.
Chris Jericho comments on Edge possibly joining AEW
WWE hall of Famer Edge wrestled his last match under his WWE contract almost a month ago. Since then, there has been a lot of speculation regarding his future. Moreover, fans believe the Rated-R superstar is headed towards All Elite Wrestling. Recently, Chris Jericho addressed the possibility of Edge jumping ship.
During an appearance on the Superstars Crossovers podcast, he mentioned being in a similar place as the Hall of Famer. According to Y2J, there was not much for him to accomplish during the final stretches of his WWE run. Furthermore, he believes Edge is in the same position as he was.
“For him to come to AEW with a whole fresh new coat of paint, a whole new roster of matches that he can have, obviously a new name, which would then, knowing him, knowing me, what I would do is a whole new look, a whole new mindset,” added Chris Jericho. The pair encountered each other on several occasions in the WWE, most notably at WrestleMania 26.
