Maxwell Jacob Friedman, a.k.a. MJF, is one of the top stars of All Elite Wrestling. He is the longest-reigning AEW World Champion at the young age of 27. Despite being positioned at the top of the card invariably, Friedman has continued to tout the “bidding war of 2024” between WWE and AEW. Nevertheless, a recent report gets to the bottom of the supposed bidding war.
The 27-year-old has often broached the topic of his potential free agency in January 2024. He coined the phrase “bidding war of 2024,” trumpeting his free-agent status in the coming year. However, the latest report from Haus of Wrestling has shed light on the truth behind MJF’s current status with AEW. The report indicated a long-term contract extension with the company.

Ahead of AEW’s recent Full Gear 2023 pay-per-view, MJF yet again remarked about joining WWE in his latest interview. The champion stated that his final decision is contingent on whichever company offers him the most lucrative contract. The aforementioned media outlet recently reached out to WWE sources to ascertain whether the former has had any talks with the company or not.
This is a completely in his head storyline. 1000%. I was told a while ago he is under a long-term deal, which is why they stopped pushing the 2024 stuff.WWE sources about MJF supposed talks with the company
According to a higher-up in WWE, there have been zero talks between MJF and WWE. They described the whole scenario of him entering free agency in 2024 as a “false narrative.” Another WWE source noted that the 27-year-old had most likely re-signed his AEW contract until 2027. Needless to say, Tony Khan would make sure to retain a superstar of his caliber in the long run.
Former WWE superstar, Miro, pokes fun of an emotional MJF
The AEW World Champion, MJF, has had quite an overwhelming week at AEW Full Gear. The Salt of The Earth was successful in retaining his ROH Tag Team Championship against The Gunns. Later in the night, he retained his coveted gold against Jay White. Thus, it was understandable for the young superstar to let his guard down. However, former TNT Champion, Miro poked fun at Friedman for publicly crying.

Following his successful title defenses, The Devil sat down with AEW President Tony Khan at the post-show media scrum. While in conversation with the media, the champion seemed a bit vulnerable and ended up shedding a bucketload of tears. The 27-year-old got emotional while discussing his love for pro wrestling and the different styles of wrestling that AEW offers to fans.
A minute-long snippet of his media scrum conversation was posted by AEW’s official handle on X. Seeing MJF as a total emotional wreck, Miro took a dig at the former on X. Retweeting the post, he stated that crying is only for babies. It remains to be seen whether the 37-year-old’s derisive comments led to a program between the two men.
