This week’s edition of SmackDown is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated television shows of the year. As previously announced by WWE, the taping will revolve around the 21st annual Tribute to the Troops. Moreover, the promotion has now confirmed that two-time Grammy nominees, The War and The Treaty, will stage a live performance on the show.
It’s going to be a historic night in Providence, where, for the first time, WWE will extend its tribute to US veterans and their families live on network television. The previous editions used to be taped in advance and aired on an announced date. However, a lot has happened in WWE over the last few months. Apart from a now-confirmed musical performance, this week’s SmackDown has a barn-burner of a card.
The show will feature the return of CM Punk. It will be Punk’s first appearance on the blue brand in over a decade. As far as the matches are concerned, Charlotte Flair takes on Asuka. Moreover, in the first-round matches of the US Championship No. 1 contender’s tournament, Bobby Lashley goes up against Karrion Kross, and Dragon Lee seeks revenge against Santos Escobar.
The show is on its way to a sellout. As reported by WrestleTix on X, the venue is completely open for seating. WWE has a massive opportunity to put on a show that fans will remember for a long time. Moreover, next week will feature the return of Roman Reigns. The way Randy Orton called him out last week would not have pleased him.
AJ Styles might return to this week’s SmackDown
Since getting ambushed by Solo Sikoa and Jimmy Uso back in September, AJ Styles has not appeared on WWE programming. Initially, it rumors were that The Phenomenal One would be back on the first SmackDown after Crown Jewel. However, it did not happen.
Once again, there’s been a major update on the former WWE Champion’s working plans. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Styles is finally slated to return this Friday. He could very well get into the ongoing storyline between Randy Orton and The Bloodline.
The Viper might need some backup, and who better than AJ Styles to do the honors? The OC member would be livid about the way he was on the sidelines from in-ring action. It’s been a while since the fans saw Styles dishing out some Phenomenal forearms.
